You can find them in free roam, all legendary animals have a specific area what they spawn in, the game will tell you if one spawns nearby, and for the naturalist role you can get a legendary animal tracker thing that’ll direct you to a nearby legendary animal

Idk which ones specifically, but I’m pretty sure the majority of legendary animals require the naturalist role.
