Okay so apparently the way to kill an elk is to lasso it then reel it in (or yourself to it more accurately). a prompt shows up to kill it and you just stab it in the neck. Perfect pelt.

If I drop one of my weapons that I have upgraded scope/barrel etc so that I can pick up a one time only weapon, do I lose the weapon I drop so that I have to buy and upgrade it all over again?

Or maybe it's not a one time only weapon. It's just the double barrel shot gun in "paying a social call". Maybe I can just leave it? Not sure if it counts towards progression to 100% or something.

Or can I temporarily "take" the shotgun from that mission, clean it then drop it and pick up my carbine instead? Is there anything special about that shotgun?

My first playthrough on PC I was doing everything as a completionist, doing every challenge etc. Stopped at Saint Denis because I wanted to be a good guy. I didn't like how, I did all this evil stuff but then was trying to grind back to being a good guy.

So I restarted so I could be a good guy from the start. Like from the beginning and not do stuff because of challenges. So I restarted and took my time, playing as a honorable arthur. Then... I got the itch to do a completionist type run but also end up as a good guy before Saint Denis. Or as much as I could be.

So my new run I'm staying in chapter 2 until i've completed everything i can possibly complete. Then move on from there.

Some of them its not in the rock but once you stand at a specific angle the rocks behind it form like, diff peices.

Like the top is the forehead, the nose is there but once you turn or angle your guy the right way, you see the bushes/angled tree forms eye brows etc.

I talked to John and that started the mission of "pouring forth oil", but then I instead went to Strawberry and did "blessed are the meek" with Micah just to get it out of the way. Now when I went back to John it seems I don't have the option to go get the wagon. Will this mess up a 100% attempt? Do I need to revert back to an older save spot and not do that?

I assume I have to revert or else I essentially missed a mission

as far as i remember, yes. i think your weapon score also overall influences the quality of the pelt. using a regular-ass rifle vs an upgraded rifle, last i checked, you have to aim more precisely with the lower grade/quality gun than a more upgraded one.

always worth it to upgrade to the most expensive options, imho. theyre not that expensive in the long run.

I've found 5 gold bars, and earned one rescuing a german guy from bounty hunters

But I donated half to the camp pot since that's what we're supposed to do

yeah yeah! $500 each, theres really nothing youll need to spend so much money in the entire storyline, definitely splurge for guns.

even with half that, its super easy to make up the rest with fencing other valuables

(and yeah you absolutely shouldve given a big portion to the camp to get insta travel and whatnot)

and if you have horse fencing unlocked (after rhodes, idk how far you are), there are a few valuable horses out there as well.

its so beautiful though, imo, it looks PERFECT with the panther saddle.

and it has the same stats as the non-white arabians.

last i checked, the white arabian still has the best base stats.

in gameplay though i havent found that it makes much of a difference.

its not cheating, you dont get disqualified for cutting corners >3>

or even taking an entirely different path

(keep this in mind if someone wants to race up near the mountains. chances are they'll want to go on a long-ass train track and you can just directly go up via a straighter trail and easily beat them.)

pretty much the races come down to knowing the terrain.

but i highly encourage you to explore/learn the actual terrain of the world. you might find some lovely/terrifying/awesome things. 🙂

including animal spawns, random npc events, and just how gorgeous the game is in general.

ah, and on that note, hunting is super worthwhile.

not so much gathering or fishing, but i think anyone who fell in love with the game would default to doing those eventually anyway.

the sooner you can get the Legend of the East satchel from pearson, the better. its not required, but its a huuuuuge help.

right. to force a respawn, you need to be somewhere completely else in order for the game to 'forget' you were there.

thats what makes it tedious

and for a decent time, too. like 15 or so mins.

for that reason i think its also good to try multiple hunts at the same time, esp on pc.

(there's little in this game that cant be solved with a headshot in deadeye with a rifle)

Like I get they saw me do something and that letting them report it is bad, but they don't all respond well to threats and if killing them is the only way to stop them reporting it why does it still happen if they're dead?
