I'm always bad in the beginning of my playthrough. I rob trains, folk, and wagons for money early on. Then in Chapter 6 I get myself positive honor from the Strauss and Downes missions, as well as the other optional story missions that give you honor. I then do the Aberdeen mission and let them rob me before the very last Arthur mission so John can inherit that money in the epilogue.
