@pastel creek the only thing that cancels the challenge i believe is water and dismounting your horse. Shooting etc doesnt cancel it. I shot a few of the super pinkertons on the way and it still count

There are a couple of map changes. They build up a portion of train tracks up northeast of Emerald Ranch, right by that Trapper. You can do a couple of missions to help it along.
and then the umm "Appleseed Logging company" I think is the name, Just east of Strawberry, cuts down a bunch of trees.
Plus several houses get put up in a few random areas around the map between the main story chapters and the epilogue. Not to Mention Pronghorn ranch..... etc etc.
