There is a way to cancel missions, without getting yourself killed. No idea what buttons for PC, but Left Arrow is the PS control, that takes you to Mission/Challenge/notification/etc info. then you can click on the mission and you should have the 'Cancel Mission' 'Retry', etc, options.

Plus, you can just hang around the Wallace/Riggs stations to find trains quickly, or just take the train at Wallace.
