There are some random encounters where a guy got bit by a snake, if you help him out, some time later you'll run into the guy in the town near where you saved him, and he'll offer to get you one free item at the store he is siting by. It's a way to get free guns/outfits/etc. This Encounter can happen multiple times, fyi.
