When tracking look at bottom right. It will have 1 to 3 stars

3 stars is perfect pelt

But you have to kill using specific methods. And it has to be headshots. So ex: rabbits need to be headshot with a small game arrow. so you need to make small game arrows

Regular arrows destroy pelt quality

Legendary animals always drop perfect pelts so just mag dump into them

I had to learn this the hard way. I kept being bummed out that I would find something cool (like the civil war hat) and then didn't have it anymore. I thought perhaps it was temporary or that I "lost" it somehow.
It turns out, you always have any unique hat or gun you collect. You just have to go to your tent and adjust which weapons/clothing are in-storage/on-horse.

I realize this is a matter of semantics here, but I think it's an important distinction.
Legendary animals always drop a legendary hide. It does not count as a perfect hide (3 star.)
What you mean is that it's impossible to damage a legendary animals hide.
Example: You can (and should for ease) blast legendary animals with stuff like explosive rifle rounds.
Unless you're a roleplayer or something. 🙂

I sooo need to do this and take your advice on looking up the locations. My problem is finding the small animals needed for the satchels:
stuff like Raccoon, Squirrel, Beaver, Rabbit... an upgraded 22 with optional on/off scope on the fly is helping me hunt them though. I either ride around and try to shoot them on horseback or I take time to scope around for small game.
Now that I'm in chapter 3, finding a perfect Iguana is just a matter of time thanks to my regular visits to the island next to camp. Panther and Cougar sound both dangerous and elusive. I think I have only seen one so far, and I certainly did not have time to see wtf quality it was before I started blasting. 🤣

there's a panther south of braithwaite manor

and there's a cougar up near the trapper near owanjila

u can also find raccoons and beavers at owanjila

squirrels and rabbit you can find everywhere but I usually find them around the heartlands area

I lost the legendary wolf pelt the other day thanks to that. Yes, it still shows up at the crafter, but you lose the ability to sell it.

How does the buck antler trinket work? It says increases the quality of pelts. Does that mean higher chance of finding 3 stars or higher chance that a 2 star turns into a 3 star when skinned?

No it does not increase star quality.. if it’s 2 star pelt it doesn’t become a three star

If however you shoot it with a higher caliber weapon..

I'm sorry but I need to know if it was a glitch or intentional , I was at Lake Isabella when a literal stranger sprinting on the path showed up , accidentally killed him cause I didn't know what was gonna happen . Has this happened to anyone else cause I have not seen any NPC around that part of the map other than the story ?

I think I know that encounter.. he sends you up to find his friend and I’ve seen him appear anywhere around ambarino

It’s not a gaurentee to get a three star but it’s a little higher chance to not ruin the theee star pelt.. I think that’s how it works

If you have a save before then you could probably go back up and find him again.. I don’t think he respawns but don’t take my word for it

Nope it’s just a set amount of missions and sides.. encounters are for some but there are so many that you don’t HAVE to do that specific one when their are hundreds

Hi, I got RDR2 a while back and tried it out once for me it was honestly a bummer and I dont know why, dont get me wrong I love a good story game but this one just doesnt seem to hook me. I know this a good game too but seriously whats going on?? the beginning is so boring all you do is just run around doing insanely boring missions with little to no combat except a few. Is this just me or is it the game because I really want to enjoy it I just cant seem to.

Understandable.. most of the beginning of the game can feel overly boring with its lack of action packed missions, if you like the more fat paced games this isn’t really that, it’s heavy with story with 60+ hours minimum just to do the story, for me I’d say that it does get more action packed the later into the game you get, chapter 1 and 2 are mainly learning the game and the characters, once chapter 3 starts expect things to be more complex, that’s all I can say

I lost the legendary bear pelt in ch2 from that mission where u go hunting with Hosea and I started a cutscene and after it wasn't on my horse anymore and the trapper didn't have it anymore, the legendary bear somehow respawned in like a in game 2 weeks

Well yes i kept it until the train mission where you have to shoot the armored wagon. I was using that revolver and at this part it forced me to use the initial revolver and when i checked back in my inventory i didnt have it anymore

It’s not hard it’s hard finding animals.. running around to locations they spawn just for a chance at them spawning not a guarantee.. it’s just time consuming

Easy to see hard to hit when my aim is so ass.. also hard when they start flying and I need that aim readjustment, and also I tried the bridge and needed other locations for some birds so it took longer

i just use binocs to check what birds are sitting at the bridge and then dead eye em if its the one i need

the buck trinket really helps too

Again I did that for over 4 hours and never got the birds I needed unless it was specific birds that spawned in that location.. I had to go elsewhere

just find animal with 3 stars quality, means perfect pelt, 2 and 1 star not worth it. mini animals like squirrels use bow with small game arrows, medium animals like wolves coyotes n foxes use normal arrows and big animals like bison, ox and cow usen improved arrows. u can also use rifles for normal and big animals but imo bow better.

and for racoons, rabbits and skunks use varmit rifle

u can buy it in gunsmith or hosea gives u one in chapter 2 one of the first missions
