I'm replaying the first red dead and the side missions are very short but I think they're excellent additions mostly to the themes of the game; longing for a past that's no longer there and giving your very being up for an old generational promise you didn't let go of

But the side missions with a few exceptions in RDR2 are... awful

A lot of them are completely pointless and have no real relation to the rest of the game's theming. It feels more like Dan Houser's bad comedy routine than an attempt to create meaning within the open world.

It does feel more GTA-ey, for what it’s worth. This is my first ever RDR2 play through after playing RDR1 just a few months ago for the first time as well.

Meanwhile you fight a mentally impaired "freak show" circus act in RDR2 for... some reason? Feels more mean spirited than anything.

I would've liked if more of the missions followed suit with the main story tugging on your heartstrings and emphasising on the choice between kindness or cruelty in a world that doesn't show much of the former.

Replaying RDR2, I find myself not even wanting to play the stranger's missions. They're fluff, there's nothing to be gained or understood from them unlike a lot of the first game's encounters.

There's another stranger's mission with the circus animals, and I find myself still confused at what the point of it is. It exists for the punchline that yes, he did in fact have a real tiger instead of the fakes he propped up earlier.

the only difference will be in body shots being 2-5

the scofield does a good job at getting 2-3 body shots while the double action will do like 4-6 with lower accuracy

also the Schofield is really good looking and you can make a replica of a legendary gun called the Otis Revolver
