Thoroughbred arguably has even better stats and is also available early on, but I don't like its color schemes as much. It's mostly a cosmetic choice, after all.

you can go to a place where lawmen come quickly like the valentine livestock part or a place like van horn with many armed enemies, go into deadeye with a lancaster/litchfield repeater and shoot while in deadeye without reloading. just shoot at their hand that is holding the gun and it should disarm them

do it after you unlock "shoot in deadeye" which I think is in chapter 4 after the trolley station mission

if you want to 100% this game I recommend you give up as soon as you can to cut your losses, you will spend about 20-30 more hours doing these shitty challenges

and then exotics... and small game carcasses...

I also just didn't have any slots left, because I felt attached to both the horse you start with and Hosea's Shire. Then there was the white Arabian (which I love, size be damned) and of course my beloved black American Standardbred (which I named Arthur in RDO). That's all the slots story mode gives you, sorry Buell.

Guess it's different if you do those missions with John. I never felt as strongly about his starter horse, or John himself.

This is starting to border on roleplaying, but here goes: I didn't owe Hamish anything. Getting himself killed was his own dang decision. Plus, between putting Buell in the stable forever and selling him so that he might find a new loving owner, I don't feel bad about going with option 2.

Hamish asked me to take care of Buell, and I did. Made sure he had a good home.

Also, selling Buell ensured he wouldn't get killed … later in the story. 😏

in life or death situations they'll just leave you to save their own skin

best place to do it is saint denis since you can go almost nowhere in that city without seeing someone

greet people, donate to beggars, save people in random encounters

theres no real way to instantly gain a ton of honor outside of story choices
