Maybe they dumped some of that money into the little gang up on Hagen but I kinda doubt that, since they weren't anywhere tougher than the Van Der Linde Gang was before it fell apart, John did kill nearly all of them on his own and made it to Micah in one piece after all

any shotgun/bolt action rifle should be just fine and quick, make sure to stay out in a more open area of the hunting zone so that you have an easier shot if it starts running for you
oh and dont turn your camera away from where the last clue leads, nearly died because i looked away for a couple seconds
Should be able to notice John's head turning to recognize the cougar even if you dont though, that's how i realized there was something behind me

Johns best feat is American venom since he did that by himself. He hasn’t cleared any other gang hideout by himself. People say he single handedly soloed Mexico or some shit. Every mission John is in he has help. He actually has a lot more help than Arthur and Arthur kills just as many people. That’s why I will always say John was at best 2nd best. I honestly think Micah is better than John, and arguably Dutch. Dutch shot Johns binoculars from a long distance with a pistol. And Micah would have killed John if not for Dutch and Sadie. Now, Micah pulled his gun on a sick dying Arthur first and Arthur still out drew him.

its frustrating to not get another chance at a battle and instead you just die and lose money and respawn

always take cover when you think you need it
dont keep holding your body out of cover to shoot people, just shoot one person and then get back behind cover, wait for some shots to fly if you want then shoot the next
make sure nobody's trying to get around your cover
use deadeye if needed to go from cover to cover or to just put down multiple enemies before going back to whatever it was you were doing
horseback combat isn't too difficult either, just dont put yourself in a position where the way you're riding is making your character constantly switch what side of the horse you're shooting from
always aim for the head when possible, if in some kind of panic situation then just land shots where possible
the quicker they die the better because the damage from being shot definitely adds up and regeneration isn't anywhere near quick enough to solely rely on to recover during the fight, use tonics
