basically, the biggest value to the legendary animals are: (a) the trinkets which you can craft by selling some of the body parts to the fence; (b) just the money itself from selling to the trapper. There might some kind of achievement from killing all the legendary but I doubt it has any effect on game play

Rdr to me is a story about jack marston and how he throws away all the chances he was given for the sake of revenge. Both Arthur and John die in order for Jack to have a chance of course Arthur died for John to have a chance but that in turn leads to Jack having a chance. The point of the game is to show a cycle of violence where as vengeance leads to an eventual death (to ppl saying John would’ve been caught anyways shut up the developers wouldn’t have put in them finding John through Micah’s body if it wasn’t important) Jack does the same thing John does and throws away all his potential by going after Ross. So if this is the story of the Marston tragedy and the story of both marstons have been told then there isn’t any point to continuing the story wether it’s going back or forward. Also in my opinion the statement “it begins and ends at a river” has a double meaning referring to jack’s relationship with Ross and the story as a whole because in a way it all begins at the river boat. Ik jack’s story hasn’t technically all been told but I don’t think we really need to see it, the narrative impact of leaving off on the very moment he dooms himself hits harder than any ending they put in a third game could.
