yeah . . .that has often bothered me too. What I did to get to where it bothers me a bit less, well two things: (1) I kinda incessantly keep my latest save updated (and I also preserve the last save from each "episode," or at least so far being only in Chapter 2, that way I can always just go back and "do over" . . . which bothers me cause I like to play "Dead is Dead" style, but this game just does NOT facilitate that for a first full playthrough . . .); (2) ANY TIME I am near NPCs I try to have my weapon put away (many exceptions to that, but mostly just out on the trail, when I will go ahead and keep it out), and I often right-click lock them and then R to Greet. I also remapped the "Aim" key from hold mode to toggle mode. It creates certain challenges to use, you wind up clicking more and often not realizing you are locked on to something but it is better than the point and hold method. I also remapped the "Rob/Negative Interact" button from "E" to "K" so that I'm not accidentally blurting out "This is a stick up" all the time

As soon as you arrive at the Horseshoe Overlook, leave camp and get well clear of the area. Might be a good idea to camp overnight. Then go back to camp. I think that might activate the Hosea mission

I've got a double barrel, the sawed off double barrel, a carbine repeater with a scope (and better rifling etc.) and my revolver is souped up too. Access to Fence, Trapper and Stable . . . that is MOST of what you need to just roam and do whatever you want. Sadly the better hunting rifles do not unlock till a bit later, but you can manage to kill large game with the carbine repeater IF you get a really well placed headshot at reasonably close range.

as far as I know, you can keep free roaming throughout the entire game, except Chapter 1. When you start a mission, you are locked in to it, but you can always just fail it and it will return you to the autosave it did before you started the mission.

when I first got this game years ago, the cinematic linearity in chapter one bugged the heck outta me. But then I realized: it isn't as bad as it seems. They actually did a decent job of balancing having a story with scripted mission "episodes" and also allowing users to go free roam as much as they want. Having gear "locked" behind progress is slightly annoying but not terrible. Only unforgiveable flaw in this game that is baffling that they never realized how bad it was and just changed the code to fix it: the auto weapon removal when you get on your horse. It does NOT do it when you mount the non-Main horse, so clearly it would have been an extremely simple fix. If they felt it was an actual feature, then just set a toggle in the Settings: default on, but allow user to turn it off.

2 weeks ago i came uppon a train robbery done by raiders, they had killed everybody, so i killed them and took the train on a ride around the maps, up north , i noticed another train was folllowing my train, i stopped and went to attack it, rob it and killed everybody, then i had the idea of taking the 2nd train, back it up, take some speed and ram it into the 1st train, sadly the game won't let you, it just stops the trian short of hitting the other one

By default an ENTIRE in-game day-night cycle only takes 45 minutes. They did this so that the map seems bigger. But it detracts from the "savor it" play style. So I have mine jacked up to where one in-game cycle takes more like 4 hours

I think it might just be that you have to be close enough to it for it to count. I did manage to get it to count on tracking a prong horn and it never moved nor did I, but I was pretty close to it.

once you kill the Legendary Buck, you can build this trinket that permanently bumps all your kills up one star. Without that, or one of the higher powered hunting rifles (along with perfect shot placement) there is always a risk of 3 star dropping to a 2 star.

keep in mind: there are SOME stores where there are scripted episodes/encounters, etc. which take place at some point in the Story. You will not be able to rob those stores. There is only one I know of, but possibly others. Basically when you try to take out your weapon to rob them it will not come out, so you'll be standing there in your mask with the merchant chastising you and trying to rob them unsuccessfully. One of the annoying features of this game with such an awkward balance between cinematic linearity and free roam open-world.

basically when you have a bounty there are three possible outcomes: (1) you avoid the law/don't get detected and just keep the bounty; (2) you go to a Post Office (generally at Train Depots) and pay the bounty; (3) The law chases and kills you and then I think it detects your bounty anyway when you die. Not sure what would happen if your bounty amount exceeds your total cash on hand. I guess you'd just have zero money when you respawn.

In reality humans are pretty erratic and unpredictable, and the game does a pretty good job of reflecting that! If you have a bounty, best thing is to either decide to cope with it (by avoiding getting detected / caught / killt) or pay it

In the past, I've been very critical of various game mechanics in RDR2 and the law man mechanic is one. But I think it is actually pretty well done, given the goals of the game. You are not supposed to be The Terminator who can just waltz around committing law man genocide I DO think that the . . . rapidity at which law men spawn in is a little over the top, but that is more a matter of which integer is an operand in the algorithm rather than the whole algorithm being trash.

well, there are tons of videos that go into optimizing your settings. 2060 is kinda old (my own is a 2080 I think, so I'm saying this to be snobby, just facts) but if you search on Youtube you can probably find some guides on how to get the most out of your rig.
I played it for about 20 hours and then went into the settings and changed a bit, mainly turned on DLSS for "Performance." But there are a LOT of settings you can change in there.

of course! That is the whole point of all the settings. But which ones to change and what to change them to to optimize for YOUR specific hardware and driver configuration? That is a question that can only be answered by exploring on your end. There is no "one size fits all" optimum setting permutation for most apps with high-load graphics, and definitely not for this one.

I myself don't devote much cognitive or memory capacity to remembering what all those crazy technical terms mean, but, there are people who love wallowing in that stuff, and some of them make really good videos that address specific games like RDR2. So if you want to get the most out of your rig for RDR2 you are behooved to find a video by one of those people

The thing is: at this stage in the evolution of the technology, and particularly for a "cutting-edge" game like RDR2, it is always going to be a tradeoff, or at least that is how it seems to me. Even if one had THE MOST advanced rig in existence as of today 29 Dec 2022, and you installed RDR2, you might not be able to get away with just setting everything to Ultra and having "perfect" performance or graphical quality. You might have to tweak a setting here or there. So for any system that has components in it which are more than 6 months old, and to compound that: any system which has been used for more than say 50 or 100 hours (and so has started to suffer wear and tear), it is going to be necessary to adjust settings to get the most out of the rig running the app. And on top of all of that: a lot of what goes into judging things like "quality" and even "performance" is subjective. One person might be perfectly happy with an average frame rate in the 70 ballpark, whereas another one finds that that is like watching a slide show and insists on 120, and there are scores if not hundreds of dimensions on which personal tastes influence assessing quality/performance.

don't be afraid to fiddle. Even just looking up what the terms mean and then inferring what might be best for your rig and your preferences can be as good as watching somebody else's guide. Maybe just: make sure you have a save you can go back to, grab a note pad and pencil to note down what a setting is before you change it (extra cautious mode, but probably not really necessary) and tweak at will!

Easiest "fix" when not playing on God's Chosen platform (where mods are a possibility): steal someone's horse, any horse really. Ride that one and have your "Main Horse" follow. Your weapons will remain on your back just as you set them, as long as you do not board your "Main Horse."
And tbh, the mods are only a partial fix: only allows one weapon on back.

If you can steal a REALLY GOOD horse, and then have another good horse as the Main one, then you are all set: just never put the saddle on the one that is your "Temporary Horse" and it will always retain its original saddle, and you can mount it without the game putting your long arms away for you.

You can check that tapping”Home” on your keyboard and it should open the menu
You should be able to change it once a year if it’s not to your liking I suppose

It increases everything in your satchel to cap at 99
And then you have “the legend of the east outfit” to go wit the satchel. You get it from completing all challenges
The buffs are:
Weapon condition +10%
Money looted +10%
Melee damage taken -10%
Damage on horseback taken -10%
Eagle Eye duration +5 seconds
All cores drain 10% slower and gain 10% bonus experience
