it's the open world part i'm interested in and not being taken by the hand through some linear missions.

and all weapons i use are fully ugraded, well except the bow

i only use repeater when i dont care about pelts or for npc's but even then it depends on the sort of fun i want to have, i like my volcano pistol 🙂

One has to advance through the story a bit more to unlock the decent hunting rifles

But you can hunt with it. I've killed lots of critters with it, and generally just give them to Pearson so the camp foodstocks are in the white instead of red. Mainly it is a way to level up Dead Eye.

I vaguely recall from when I played this game 3 years ago, there are some decent hunting rifles not too far into the game. Don't remember if it was that one or another one, but yeah: basically you're gimped when you first start and have to advance through the story to get better gear.

The revolver though, is pretty dope, even the basic one.

and the bow with improved arrows is quite effective at hunting though the range is limited obviously

The way the game handles fist fights is fascinating. I just go around greeting guys at that livestock yard. Periodically you'll meet one sour puss who doesn't want to be friendly. So I lock on my stare and just go stand right next to him! 🤣 Eventually he'll throw the first punch and then I can beat the tar out of 'em and no one will intervene, and no law.

na for the oil, check the place, one of the oil wagon is parked right at the fence, so walk to the fence, jump over, jump on wagon and ride out fast, no shooting needed

But by the time I've done that 8 or 9 times, guys are like "Aren't you done causing grief here today?" and "I'm not gonna put up with you nonsense any more . . ." etc. So then eventually you'll get two or three of them gang up on you.

but the easiest way is that, hop the fence, u end up behind wagon, wait till guards ahead of wagon look away, then ride like a bat out of hell, if done right, only the 2 guards at exit have time to try and shoot at u

I've been at beginning of chapter 3 now for 2 or 3 weeks, I'm just not working on the storyline, everytime I go to my wagon, Dutch keeps calling me and wanting to talk to me. I basically keep one save from every chapter I finish (or "episode" or whatever they are): then I generally have two to three that are recent and most recent and I just keep overwriting the older of those. Then when I get a new mission: overwrite it again, and then make a second one to be the permanent slot . . .

Yep! I just double checked it by writing down my XP 352/550 and then shot a raccoon in the head and it was 355/550. My hunch would be that getting one headshot kills gives you health XP.

Fishing you do need to do a mission with Jack.... Usually. If you find a random NPC fishing, you can -get- them to drop their Rod, and use it.
However, Boats are all over the place and aren't locked by any mission, so, go for it.

Not that one expects the leader of a gang of murdering, robbing thugs for the past 25 years or so to be a self-actualized exemplar of human virtue! So he is basically a well-done character. Almost all of them are in fact: believable, and engaging whether that is repulsion or attraction.

Even Arthur is flawed, though perhaps less than most of them. It would have been easy to write up the van der Linden gang as either: 2-dimensional "actually good folks" but had to be robbers; else as 2-dimensional "truly repellent villains" ala the O'Driscolls. But the writer did a good job of keeping almost all of them grey. Probably a bit part of why the game is so famous: literature in game form or some such.

My screen if turned into full screen does not apply HUD. If kept in windowed and in a lower screen resolution(currently playing on 1367 X 768) then HUD appears on it. At First I thought it was an issue of the game. However don't know if its a problem of my laptop screen or not. Other games all work properly ( GtaV, Metal gear solid,pc building simulator, drug dealer simulator).

As John, i got the bridle arabian (definitely my favourite arabian) who recently sadly got hit by a train when i was doing a sharpshooter challenge lol
My career with arabians continued with the white one which i tamed like 2 days ago (real life time)

what I have traditionally done is jut to capture a bad guys horse, then ride that one with my "Main Horse" in tow. That way they both have saddles, and if I need to switch to the Main I can. But I don't know how to name the ones you commandeer.

I prefer to ride the 'temp' horse because it doesn't suck my rifles off my back and shoulder every time I hop on!
