i also never noticed this but now that i think about it yes! oogh and. let me form this thought. dutch described saint denis in a pretty good light. he liked civilization where he could swindle his way through town and use his charm to his advantage, unlike arthur who disliked it. the gang moving further into civilization, following dutch's corrupted view of their "freedom" and the "better life" like with tahiti, just said all the more with their downfall.... saint denis having smoke and smog and then in the final chapter when theyre near annesburg with even MORE of that, + trees all chopped, oil in the water, coal mines. sorry for the yap
