no, the mission is not linked to the dlc story but idk if you can unlock that mission if you haven't finished the main story (I didn't try because I always play blood and wine after I finish the story) when you get to toussaint someone gives you a letter from yen or triss It depends on who you chose and you have to go to that lab to unlock the mutations

You go back to the last clue you had, and if you had to wait a few days just start over where the first track is. Use eagle eye to spot the trail.

If the animal has already been found but not dead, you'll just have to use eagle eye to find it roaming around

turns out, it's possible to be tracking the legendary animal, and lose the track. You know how you get the declining gauge about "Tracking"? If you get interrupted by wild life attacks or NPC events, the gauge depletes and the legendary animal track "event" ends.

It's obvious that you need to have it "retrigger" but no one seems to have the answer around online about how that happens
