Hey there again. My ROG Strix G17 (the G712LU to be exact) is only able to download at up to 50MBit/s, it's often a lot slower. (upload is limited to 25MBit/s by our plan anyway) I honestly can't remember when this started, probably like a month ago. Other devices in the same network have no problem at all, so it can't be the access point, it has to be my laptop. I've already tried resetting the network but to no avail. What can I do to get back the speeds I should be getting? Accessing our NAS I seem to be getting better speeds but still not close to what it's capable of (I should be getting close to 300Mbit/s but I'm only getting around 80MBit/s). Wired it works just fine

Did you update the wifi drivers or bios on the laptop?

There hasn't been a BIOS update in quite a while, I have the 2020 model. The wireless driver is from 2022, there is a newer one on the support page but it's only 3 months more recent

#

I'm updating to that right now, let's see what that does

#

That didn't help, it still shows the same driver date and it's still as slow. Should I perhaps open the laptop to check if any cable has come off the WiFi card?

These get added in a Windows update quietly

#

There is also energy efficient Ethernet that you can turn off (sometimes abbreviated as EEE)

#

There are more dumb options they have that help sometimes but can't remember all, just look through what you have

Where can I find those settings?

Device manager > select your nic > properties

I don't see anything like that. I may open it up soon and since I have to open my other laptop due to there being something in the fan, I may as well try that thing's WiFi card in this laptop to see if it's the module that gave up. Unrelated to this issue I'm also gonna try out Bazzite just to have tried it. Then I'll be able to verify whether it's a software or hardware issue
