Single laptop core hitting 100C when rest are at 70

My laptop (Gigabyte G6 HF) keeps throttling and getting very hot, after some hwinfo investigating its one core hitting 100C whenever it does anything, i tried to disable the core to see if that was causing it to heat up, it wasn't still gets super hot and isn't being cooled very well. any thoughts?

how old is it? and have you taken it apart and cleaned it anytime recently?

came out in 2023, had it apart just to replace the thermal paste, just abt to test it rn

it was spotless inside though since i bought it a few days ago from a reputable second hand retailer

seems to be fine now i replaced the thermal paste, my bench mark was how dying light ran

and now it's pinned to 165hz with v sync on

which is good

imma turn off v sync and see if it does what it did before when i tried that

yeah seems to be running right now, 190fps pinned at 100% gpu usage

from what i remember with my laptop when i had it - the themal paste dried out VERY quickly, idk if its the paste they used from factory or just the fact that laptops run really warm due to heatsoak problems

i would assume that was likely the issue

yeah, i was gonna replace it originally but it ran at 60fps fine and for some reason my display was set to 60hz then i was fiddling with settings as you do and then i realised it was a 165hz display and i figured hmmm, very good laptop should be able to handle it and then it crapped out

i put some thermal grizzly something or rather on it

and it seems to be fine now

thermal grizzly makes great paste, should be good for a bit now, expect it to come back over the yrs tho

esp if you have long gaming sessions on it

yeah i will, my stack is due a paste replacement i think i haven't changed it in 4 years 😭
