Okay, first of all I apologise if it doesn't make sense to everybody. I am ADHD autistic

As a hobby I refurbish old tech usually computers hence why I'm writing in this forum I need eight drives to run on a board that only has four sata.

I'm building for myself a box to store everything long-term a bit like a project vault.

I have two I assume they're both the same raid cards with a VIA chipset and two internal sata

Does anybody know if these are the same cards and so will not work together?

I have no instructions or information I can tell you but it will be going on at Linux mint install

If I knew how to do trueNAS / unraid / hex os (If I could afford hex OS I would so that is out of the question really though it probably would be best)

I would probably do that as the drives are all different sizes But as I said above no money.

I do have another option and that is a four port SATA card

The board I'm using this card will not fit in the small slot ( for reference, board is asrock n68c) But does have full size PCI slot

If I put the small card in a big slot like the fourth picture, will it still work at the full capability and speed?

(In one of the videos I did see Linus chop out one of the slots because the card wouldn't fit but ideally don't want to do this because I could screw up with how I am)

Sorry the third picture didn't touch correctly. Hence why is a separate part of this post

No you can't put a PCIe device in a PCI slot

They are so not the same that their only similarities are expansion cards and motherboard slots

#

In basically all cases, pci-express is superior

Little bit deeper on the asrock board. It has pcie1 written next to this small slot. The red card I have will not fit in this slot. Hence why I thought about the two large cards and the PCI slots mentioned above ideally use those but unknown if they are the same (assuming so as they are both via chipsets) and will cause issues

If I chopped off the end of socket would it still work at full speed and with all ports?

As the original post said I would rather use the two green cards rather than butcher this motherboard as it's still a good board that works fully and I really I'm scared of myself fing it up

maybe not at full speed, as it looks like an x2 card, but your only other option is the x16 slot

any idea if the 2 green ones are the same?

The green cards I meant are they the same as in do the same job (if used in same system to make 8 sata) will it conflict or are they 2 different cards but with same functionality?
