Hi, Can you do check the health of Samsung SSD via Samsung magician soft.
@shrewd token https://rtech.support/factoids/cdi/
ok ima send it real quick
@toxic sedge
Hello guys! Ive run into a problem which i dont understand the reason to why... Occasionally i get "crictical process died" message when i exit a game( no specfic game it just happens). And the screen is not a bluescreen more like the "activate windows" watermark.... Ive updated my bios and chipset drivers, gpu drivers are up to date... and the games run smooth. Anyone been through something similar?
@shrewd token None of the drives have reported any errors. 80% of the time, a faulty SATA drive will show errors in SMART (It's completely useless with NVMe for future reference, as NVMe is taking over)
these are my specs
@chrome moat Critical_Process_Died means that a Windows process crashed. That can happen for many reasons, but if you get that crash error every single time it usually means corruption to Windows. And when that happens, you have to consider that the storage could be faulty.
Thats the annoying part, it doesnt happen everytime... Just sometimes, maybe it has something to do with the new windows update?
@shrewd token You could upload the dump file (Bluescreenview is a useless tool), but with Critical_Process_Died you very rarely get anything useful. It's just some random Windows process crashing.
Not that it crashes, that the crash is Critical_Process_Died.
Ahhh
Go to C:\Windows\Minidump and check if you have any minidump files. If you do, go back to the Windows folder and copy the Minidump folder itself to the Downloads folder (You can use the desktop if you don't have OneDrive syncing files). Zip the copied folder and attach it to a post.
Yeah
Does it supply any usefull info?
The last one is still loading
Not sure if it's broken
Going to give it 30 more seconds
No, the last one won't load.
Four is enough though. And no they aren't really showing anything. It's just a Windows process crashing
It is svchost.exe though. This process is a bit weird. It runs other processes. So we don't really know if it's svchost.exe crashing or the process it's hosting.
can i troubleshoot it in someway?
Not really.
If it was using a lot of resources and slowing it down we could find out, but when it just crashes we can't really check this.
Shit, cause if i did OC's and what not and genereally had an unstable system it would make more sense but i ran aida extreme(cpu based) for 4 hours and no crasch
I get good temps to so its not overheating
Stress tests won't catch all issues. Sometimes you get errors from edge cases, when weird commands are being used.
So if you are overclocking or undervolting, remove it
It's possible, but that would usually either give CPU errors or memory errors. And with memory errors, it's completely random what data is corrupted so you get all kinds of crashes and different drivers being blamed.
what a mess
But testing it is quick
its so frustrating to not know what causes it
The 9800X3D runs that hot?
not really
its more of a powerdraw
i have a nh d15 g2
so it runs 73 degrees (package) on cinebench r23
@chrome moat Did you remove the EXPO or has the motherboard reset it on its own?
i have it enabled
what
Oh yes! when i updated the bios maybe that wipes the settingsd
Yes, updating the BIOS resets settings
Was just thinking that if the motherboard reset the speed, it could mean that it was having trouble keeping the RAM stable
np
Hopefully i dont need to contact you again but ill let you know if it fixes it
@chrome moat You can try this, but I mostly use it to just check for corruption. The tool isn't good at actually fixing it. Even when it says it fixed it and it doesn't find anything on the next scan: https://rtech.support/guides/dism-sfc/
So if it finds corruption and you still crash, I would reinstall. If you crash during the install or soon after, I would suspect the SSD.
M.2 does have issues with improper seating so try just unplugging it and plugging it back in, making really sure it's properly connected, often helps.
You can of course try re-seating it first
It's not going to be more stable with EXPO enabled.
Well, technically it could if the RAM needs more voltage, but it's really rare
I’ll pray for the rare occasion
@toxic sedge sry i was just out
Ima drop the dump files
Although the pc is running for like good 6 hours
@chrome moat @toxic sedge here is the dmp file
I did sfc and dism nothing showed wrong
I also used microwin install iso
But i dont thing thats it tbh
It only started happening recently too this pc is like 6-7 years old
Nothing interesting. So storage would be the main suspect.
Assuming that all the crashes have been Critical_Process_Died.
You can of course try re-seating the SATA cables.
Okay, it’s still happening….
Now when I closed hearts of iron 4(after 5 hours of gameplay).
I got the critical process died again

I’m gonna try this
Sorry for still bothering you @toxic sedge
So after messing about in commandpromt it seems that I had corrupted files… hopefully this helped
It happened again... and its only after closing a game, like not immiadately but like 3 seconds after
i tried to turn of razer cortex and now it stopped
I think I found the issue
First of all when I removed the heatsink it popped up, it should stay in place, and it was also slightly loose
okay, my motherboard had its "Ai OC" on
sorry for the spam
i turned it off and i havent had any issues yet
If it occurs.... after a fresh install of windows... then it could be drive issue...or that new windows 11 update causing the issue...
I am thinking its the new update
Ever since i uninstalled it yesterday its been running nicely
But windows being windows wants me to update it again
@shrewd token If you are having issues with the latest update you want to update the firmware of your SSD immediately. Windows is getting most of the blame for this, but it's a firmware bug.
There is no update
To the firmware
But since i ininstalled the update it been fine
@shrewd token Yeah, I don't think anyone are completely sure why it's happening (At least MS hasn't communicated it, they came out yesterday and said it wasn't their fault)
Though of course, MS might have missed something
Confirmed to be firmware: https://www.techspot.com/news/109370-windows-11-cleared-all-charges-killing-ssds-real.html
