I want some help regarding this... the stop code is showing as "DXG_KRNL" when I opened the win event viewer it showed a critical error called "Kernel 41",when the BSOD shows up the fan blasts at full speed making horrendous noise
Laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 (3.5 years of use)
What I have done:
1)Reinstall all GPU drivers
2)Bios are all updated
3)Win updated aswell
This happens when playing games
#BSOD for 5th time

Did you make any recent hardware changes ?
If there is good lenovo service center around you, then you can take it there and ask them if its hardware issue.
But first check if issue is related to a particular game or software
it is
only with roblox
idk why
but other games are fine
fc5
mc
ets 2
all run good
Go to C:\Windows\Minidump and check if you have any minidump files. If you do, go back to the Windows folder and copy the Minidump folder itself to the Downloads folder (You can use the desktop if you don't have OneDrive syncing files). Zip the copied folder and attach it to a post.
Though just from the crash error, this is likely the GPU crashing.
yeah I played mc right now and no crashes and bsod
yes I will once I get home
hello
is this normal?
why do the letters look weird
is there another step to approach this?
Okay I used the debugging tool to analyse the dump and this is what I got
@nimble horizon sorry for the dm but I had to
@delicate violet I gave instructions here
Do you get an error?
No, when trying to zip
@delicate violet Right click on it. If on Windows 11, click more options, then Send To → Compressed (zipped) folder
dude i opened it
its the same thing
💀
i was asking on why does it look like something straight out of matrix
I opened after compressing it to zip
Because it's compiled code. You need a debugger to read it
You zip it to share it, not read it
If you want to read them, get WinDbg from the Windows Store.
I did
Doing the automatic analysis is not debugging it
You only had one dump file?
Do you remember if all the BSODs were the same error?
well I do got one screenshot from event viewer
it had kernel 41
5 times
critical
Well, Kernel-Power just means unexpected shutdown. It's from any freeze, hard crash, BSOD, power loss or holding the power button.
Or running out of battery
If you check the Details tab of these, it will have a BugCheck field. If this is 0x0, no BSOD.
Check the Details tab
Bottom half of Event viewer, right above where it gives you info about the selected event
BugCheckCode 275 (0x113 in hex) is Video_DXGKrnl_Fatal_Error, the same you had a dump file from.
Do they all say the same thing?
yeah
Ok. The dump file points to the Nvidia driver.
Let's try DDU. DDU will delete the current drive so that you have a clean slate when reinstalling it.
Follow the laptop specific instructions in the sections that have them.
You can find the drivers for your laptop here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/gaming-series/ideapad-gaming-3-15imh05/downloads/driver-list
The drivers from Lenovo are quite old, but on laptops I prefer using those for the initial install and testing.
If you feel like it's stable, try updating them.
If you crash, a faulty GPU would be my main suspect.
I did those
but here is the thing
it happens when playing a specific game
Roblox
I tried other games like mc,ets2 and FC5 it doesnt happen'
Have you tested other games for long durations ? Like play the other games for more time than whatever time it takes for roblox to crash
If you crash, a faulty GPU would be my main suspect.
That's what I finished with
DirectX is a Windows Component that's built into the latest OS. Now these other games, are they using DirectX or Vulkan? Also what version of DirectX are using in your game thats crashing vs others?
Though this makes it less likely to be hardware.
I did lol and played ets 2 last night for more than 1.5 hours and didn't crash
direct x
havent checked the launcher type
Does roblox give option to switch to vulkan api ? I have no idea. I know that rdr2 does give that option
Then my knowledge ends here
Also, make sure to predownload the gpu driver ahead of time. And disconnect from the internet when you run ddu, and ONLY reconnect to the internet after you have installed the gpu driver. Sometimes windows will re-download a old driver while you are in the process of installing yours, and mess things up. Disconnecting from the net ensures that doesn't happen.
@delicate violet
Its best practice to do the above, as it rules put any potential software issues occurring. Like in your instance. Its rare, but does happen frequently enough that most people who use ddu do so.
I haven't tried ddu but did it while I was disconnected from internet
like installing it from official driver support site
If it relates specifically to Roblox, yes, you can focus on your GPU driver, but don't forget settings from within Roblox that might be causing the issue, tinker around with them, and consider checking your game files. It sounds like something is causing an issue with the GPU driver, that could be a bad instruction that it can't process, and that could come from the game.
yeah I deleted entire file of roblox from my system and reinstalled all of it instead of just the launcher
and now I didn't get bsod
so I think some of the files did get corrupt
Do the above steps below. Follow them exactly. This is common practice for anyone having driver related issues.
.
.
.
Step 1, download the gpu driver for your gpu.
Step 2, download DDU (https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/), and extract it to your desktop into its own folder.
Step 3, disconnect from the internet entirelly.
Step 4, boot into safe mode.
Step 5, run ddu. Keep all options at default. Select the gpu driver (intel, nvidia, amd) then click, "clean and restart" the recomended option.
Step 6, when pc boots, install that gpu driver you downloaded prior.
Step 7, after the gpu driver installs, hook back to the internet.
Re install roblox
Yes I did
I have already done this but thank you!
In the one comment you said you haven't done ddu yet, but you installed the gpu driver while being disconnected. So, kinda confused me. Besides, never hurts to do it again. The install may have been borked.
hmmm
