#Fixing dual boot boot loader (win10 and 11
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Are you able to boot into windows...right now?
Only windows 10
I tried following the ai but everything it’s suggested I get a failure when attempting to copy boot files
Screenshot disk management app...
disk 4 is supposed to be the OS drive for both. the 365GB should be windows 11
Wait for a moment...
did i mess something up?
First add a drive letter to that 365GB partition...
got it. i assigned it to U
You can add.. boot entry using bcdedit...
However I dont prefer this route.. because if the boot partition is corrupted..you may lose both boot loaders..
So I suggest you create another 100MB fat32 primary partition right now...
how would i do that?
Using diskpart in cmd..
Select disk 4.. then screenshot
Run cmd as admin...
Then type diskpart and enter..
Type list disk
i did
Show..
Type...sel disk 4
Oh!..dont try to put commands ahead... you may make a mistake...
Now...after selecting disk 4...
Type..create partition efi size=200
I see...you dont have unallocated space..
Keep the cmd minimized..
Right click on 365GB..in disk management..and click shrink volume...
should i do like 300MB so theres a little extra?
200MB is enough...
i did 200 and it shows 201
Haha!..welp..
Go back to diskpart..
and sel disk 4 again...and this time..set the size 201..
create partition efi size=201...i meant..
Now...type list part...and select that partition...
Assign a new letter..
Type..format fs=fat32
Now type exit..
Then type..bcdboot U:\Windows /s T: /f UEFI
@tacit oracle
Now whats your motherboard model?...
not 100% sure. i know its a newer asus motherboard for the 9800x3D. i believe its a 790 chipset
Asus?..reboot your pc..and immediately spam f8 when screen goes black...till you see boot device list...
Show that boot device list..
Welp!...pick one..
It’s booting into windows 11
Is there a way to get it to pop up the screen to pick which OS I want like it was originally
So booting to 11..was a success I assume..
Welp...you can sort the boot order in bios...
I find it pain..since when you pick the other os..it basically reboots and loads the other os....resulting in waste of time..
If you want to pick everytime...then f8 is a better option..
It’s just easier for my fiancé. She uses windows 11 and I’m using 10 on her pc but if not that’s fine. I’ll just set windows 11 as the first boot options
Reminder!..
Never mess up her pc again.. >.<
Also...never use reset...its a broken feature..
Ngl I was stressing about losing her sims files. She would have killed me 😂
