I'm going to reuse my old GPU and SSD, but everything else is gonna be new (or new to me).
A coworker of mine is going to sell me his 7950X for $250, and I planned on going AM5 anyway.
Looking online I found kits of 48GB (24x2) DDR5 for around $100 but finding them with EXPO seems a little time consuming.
I also found some decent AM5 motherboards on ebay for around $140, it needs to be matx to fit the case I want. I want two nvme slots, that's my only real requirement.
For the case I'm getting an okinos cypress 3 with wood on it, and I'm gonna put some noctua fans in it. I already have a few noctua fans and I can get them for $5 a pop at my work if I'm patient.
I found that there are plenty of 2tb nvme drives available for around $100-$130, I want to avoid silicon power due to a previous poor experience
For power supply I want to get an RM850e, I've built with a modern corsair unit before for someone else and really enjoyed it, I like the cables it comes with.
For CPU cooler I want to keep with the noctua theme to go with the wood but the case has me limited on cooler height, the NH-D12L seems like a good option, even at $100 I dont mind spending a bit more
Anything I should change? I want the extra ram for DCS and Beamng btw 🙂

Update:
Case is on order and I have 3 noctua fans to at least fill the front of the case, but I’m still hopefully going to more.

my advice if you using that cpu for gaming only, disable one of its ccd

edgy fractal
# wise comet then why do they recomend a 8 core or better

Honestly not sure, the guy who told me that had played more than me and I couldn’t be bothered to test it myself since I’d have to change my after burner settings. I should’ve picked up on that tho, considering it can use 70% of my 8700K in multiplayer. Im gonna be honest that was an incorrect statement that it only uses 3 threads.

What GPU you reusing

#

And 850e Corsair is b tier. Spring to the x series if you can.

IS it 2023 or 2025 rme

deep shell
#

The century noise profile is excellent

half crown
#

century is loud

#

Louder than rme

deep shell
#

No

edgy fractal
half crown
#

They could improve it

#

By far

#

Thats a solid fan curve

half crown
# edgy fractal 2025

So no broken fan controller and some other issues amazing. But i would get c850 then

deep shell
half crown
#

Thats montech century II

edgy fractal
deep shell
#

Ah it’s the 1050 that they fixed the noise

wet latch
half crown
#

Could be better

#

On 0-600w range

That is cybenetics chart

#

Rme 2025 dosent report coil whine anymore AS 2023 did

#

comes down to a luck basically

deep shell
#

RMX is a much better unit

edgy fractal
deep shell
#

Okay

half crown
#

Two class units anyway

deep shell
#

Did you look at the board and ssd linked?

Aye I do

Tbh wouldn’t know how to change it

half crown
#

This is with on

half crown
#

On 3.1

#

Rmx

#

instead of providing a switch to select or deselect the fan’s semi-passive mode, Corsair provided the option to choose the fan’s starting speed.

wet latch
#

Oh I got 2021version. No knob

half crown
#

For 2021

wet latch
#

Thanks. More than good enough for me then

edgy fractal

#

Like 1-2% difference

edgy fractal
#

Okay

#

Do you think Im making the right choice on PSU?

desert hollow
#

Why would the graph have any changes? Watt is unit of power so it doesn't change.

edgy fractal
#

Power equipment can do weird things from my experience

#

And watts is volts x amps so to get the watts through the connector on a different voltage you need a different amperage. You likely already know this, Im just thinking that the change in amperage could affect noise.

desert hollow
#

Mhm... Never thought how amps and efficiency would influence temps in PSUs in 110v vs 230v

edgy fractal
#

Yeah realistically the difference doesn’t really matter though

desert hollow
#

It shouldn't. We're not talking about MW or GW

edgy fractal
#

Yeah this is really small scale

#

Do you think the rm850e is a good choice?

#

I hear lots of back and fourth about corsair power supplies

#

But ive had a good experience with them

desert hollow
#

I guess depends on hardware. I'm rocking EVGA PSU, don't remember the model anymore, bought it ~5 years ago.

#

I don't see a reason why Corsair PSU would be a bad choice but I also haven't been following that much tech news in past year or two so mby I missed something

#

For me main thing would be modular or not 😅

edgy fractal
#

Yeah definitely not getting a spaghetti machine 🤣

desert hollow
#

Do you want everything to be attached to your power box or are you able to keep track of your cables over years

edgy fractal
#

Ill keep track

#

Ill put them in the box and store them with all my other hardware

desert hollow
#

Unless you're looking for something extra quiet or something, I don't think that your PSU choice matters that much as long as it has enough power and it comes from reputable source

#

so no ketchup-mustard powerboxes

edgy fractal
#

Yeah Im not trying to squeeze out every bit of noise but I definitely dont want it to be loud

#

I am doing a bit of noctua theme after all

desert hollow
#

I think I remember hearing that if ur PSU works at 50-60% it should be very quiet, but it won't achieve its efficiency peak. As much as I remember PSU is most efficient at 80% of its rated power, but 50-60% keeps it quiet

#

Tho things might have changed since then

edgy fractal
#

From my previous recent experience building with a corsair unit, they are very quiet

desert hollow
#

Personally I've never heard my PSU

edgy fractal
#

Like honestly I have absolutely no complaints about them, they’re just good all around

desert hollow
#

I either hear my CPU cooler fans or my case fans

edgy fractal
#

I did this build for someone else with a corsair PSU

#

The cables are fantastic

desert hollow
#

wow, it looks nice

#

I guess only thing that I would've done is aftermarket CPU cooler

#

either big nasty air cooler for low speeds and low noise or AiO for looks

#

Bit of a shame that front is glass. I prefer mesh front for better air flow

edgy fractal
#

That build was done pretty quickly and it had a somewhat tight budget

desert hollow
#

But that's my preference

edgy fractal
#

The reason I sent that tho is those cables

#

The psu just came with those

#

And the combs

edgy fractal
#

He forgot to order ram and thats all I had on hand

#

He upgraded it shortly after

wise comet
#

RIP its not even in the right slot

edgy fractal
#

Oh yeah your right I never even noticed

#

It wouldn’t make a tangible difference anyway

wise comet
edgy fractal
#

That had DDR4

wise comet
edgy fractal
#

Both of yall are missing why I posted it

#

Which was the cables

#

Those are pretty sweet for not being extensions or modified at all

desert hollow
#

I wouldn't say that if cables were a mess

edgy fractal
#

What? Are you saying that it only looks good because I did good cable management or that I did bad on my cable management

desert hollow
edgy fractal
#

What could I have done better on?

#

There was nowhere else for the GPU cable to go except over

#

I genuinely want to hear your criticism if you have any

desert hollow
#

As I said, looks really nice (with the exception of single RAM stick). I can see that you've put some work and thought into it

edgy fractal
#

I didnt have a whole lot of time

#

Customer lived a few hours away

#

I ended building half of it and he delivered some stuff he had on his way through, which was the PSU and GPU

#

And I only had a couple hours to finish it up

desert hollow
#

It took me like 5 attempts to make my build look good and then I f***ed it up again when I changed my CPU cooler 😅

edgy fractal
#

This is my current build

#

It was cobbled together in some ways and Im hoping to do things a bit more calculated this time

desert hollow
#

Such a shame that GPUs now need to have special bracket to keep it from sagging 😥

edgy fractal
#

Yeah and my 3070 tuf really isn’t a “huge” card anyway

#

This case is pretty big tho

#

Thats why im going matx

desert hollow
#

I do love the idea of small builds, but I feel more comfortable with ATX and eATX just because you can fit 360 easily

edgy fractal
#

Did you see the cooler Im going with? The NH-D12L

#

A bit more expensive than some similar coolers but I like noctua and its worth it to me

desert hollow
#

Noctua always seemed like a nice brand. But every time I see its price, I just steer away

#

Not feeling like paying 120 EUR for air cooler

#

But I can understand why someone would like it. As far as I've heard they're best in business

desert hollow
edgy fractal
#

I got my 3070 in 2023 for $270

half crown
#

It changes only the fan curve slightly

#

Some psus have have 2 different effiency badges xD.
Like gold at 115v and plat at 230v

desert hollow
#

Here 2nd hand market is kinda sh**. Everyone thinks that their old tech is worth its weight in gold. So either I need to go for new tech or look for something from Germany

edgy fractal
#

My used market is pretty meh, good hardware will occasionally pop up but for the most part its just junk

desert hollow
#

Every time I watch some YT vid and hear their prices, I'm just salivating and imagining what I could build if pc parts would be that cheap here

#

Tho I guess with tariffs that also went to sh**
