#5070 vs 5070 TI

Trying to finish a first time performance build. This is what I have:

Ryzen 9700x, Lancool 207, RMe 650W corsair PSU, 3x extra fans (other than 4 included), and Thermalright phantom EVO air cooler.

Now I managed to cop 2 GPUs on my hand for the following effective prices:

Both are gigabyte windforce

5070 3xOC ~ $560
5070 ti non OC SFF ~ $745

I may consider upgrading to 750 W, so factor that 30 extra.

My primary use case is time series ML analysis, but I rarely exceed 12 GB model size, but I do think that may happen in future. I am also open to renting which i have been doing before, but I want to build a PC.

I am also a gamer. Marvel Rivals, Valorant, League, Apex, maybe racing games in future (F1, Forza, NFS) on 1440p 165 Hz. This goal is obviously secondary, but still important to me.

My budget is flexible, but I wanted to aim for 1500, which I am at approx $1390 for 5070 and $1580 for 5070 ti.

I don't want to overspend, but at the same time, maybe I was looking into future proofing, which from my understanding is not exactly reliable, but still possible.

Can I get some help/insight?

how come? by the way?

Originally I was going to go with the 5070 ti, but then I thought, that I am just a casual gamer, and I do more work than that. I may end up usually not telling much difference between a HIGH to ULTRA, the only thing that may indicate otherwise is that I am running a 165 Hz monitor ... yea.

cant upgrade vram

fiery lintel
#

true ig, are you experienced with plain classification / regression modelling?

#

I have been doing so for a while, but personally I never worked on benchmarking them

verbal trench
#

no clue but at least for games the difference for the ti and no is like what 20% or something sooo i would expect something around there for other stuff too or more

that's why I am trying to get a consensus here, weather the 16 GB is really the method, otherwise I'm fine adjusting.

Another thing is I don't want to go throught he hassle of upgrades in the near future like 5 years.

#

ah ok

verbal trench
#

higher vram should also hold its value better

fiery lintel
#

that is a fair point that I heard from other sources as well yea

#

I do have to go through exchanging the 650 W to a 750 W no? or is that not required?

# verbal trench ehhh the 5070 ti should only be max like 350w

its like ...

I think last I used a calculator, the 9700x and the 5070 ti needed 650 W together recommended,

but should I account for the other components?

My build should power lian li 207's 4 fans, 2 fans within the air cooler, 1 rear fan 3 top fans, and then the ATX motherboard with 2 m.2 drives.

WORST case nothing bad will happen

#

the pc will just overload by a little and you will need to get a new psu with no harm

fierce condor
#

MAYBE 900+ if you plan on upgrading to something that draws more

If you plan on upgrading

verbal trench

you can get away with a 850w on a 9950X and 7900 XTX

I mostly plan on keeping the config, the only things I might add is extra ram from 32 GB to 64 GB,.

I am a pretty heavy user for coding, but I don't necessary think I see the use beyond 9700x for the near future for now.

TLDR, i think my first upgrade might come in like 4-5 years at the earliest most likely.

Should I upgrade to 750W or keep the 650W?

@verbal trench @fierce condor

verbal trench

i would try with the 650w

#

nothing bad will happen worst case

#

also waiting is a smart move as next gen will offer a total of 24 cores on the same cpu for am5

fiery lintel
#

ok I am not that big of a power user, I am a student after all.

#

I felt like the 8 core is there right now suffices right? 24 cores is triple the amount lol

#

you mean threads?

verbal trench
#

No cores

#

But no I meant once it comes time to upgrade the cpu then that cou should be very relevant for you

Maybe
