Got a fresh install of WIndows and now it seems certain games wont launch through Steam. Such as, Rome Remasted 2, Ark Survival Evolved and Icarus. Most other games launch fine and when i do try to launch the aforementioned games, it says its "playing" then moments later it just says "play" again. Ive tried installing new .dll files and repairing Windows (along with the most basic fixes such as verifying game files, etc.) any help would be much appreciated! (im slowly pulling my hair out!!)

First check your specs against recommended hardware, otherwise I'm not sure. Also check task manager and device manager to make sure every thing is accounted for.

This can happen with corrupted steam installs as well. Had it happen once to me. What sucks is, there is no way to uninstall steam and keep your games. Soooooo..... yeah. You can manually save the folders if you wish to save local save files. But, with most of it being cloud saves, it shouldn't be an issue. But yeah, it can suck.

#

Also, when this happens are you able to open other programs just fine? Sometimes when this issue happens it can cause issues where other apps fail to load at all. And you are forced to manually restart the pc. Nothing like that right?

no thats not occuring, are u suggesting that i just try to re install steam?

Using something like REVOuninstaller or just manually looking for leftover steam files.

gotcha, and it didnt work unfortunately.

It was worth a shot. And now you can rule out steam.

#

So you did the following?

#

Fix 1. Open a elevated command prompt and run sfc /scannow

Fix 2. Dism /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Fix 3. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Fix 4. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

#

Also, have you ddu wiped your gpu drivers and installed a stable one?

yeah ive ran those prompts along with re installing the gpu drivers with a clean install. I also failed to mention that when i open the game through the local files, i get 2 "bad image" error message: "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\D3DComplier_42.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it containes an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc000012f" and the other "C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d3dx11_42.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc000012f" ive gone through them and found those files on a forum and replaced them yet it still had the same effect. I got a pirated version to see if mayhaps it would correct some files or something but i still get the same error codes. Also wanna point out that im a newbie with all this.

First off. Stop visiting this pirated forums. Gurantee thats your main issue right there. Stay off the adult sites and dont click on any random ass links.

With that bring said. Reinstalling drivers wont fix this. You need to ddu wipe them, then install the gpu drivers again. All those errors are from a bad driver install.

#

.
.
Step 1, download the gpu driver for your gpu.

Step 2, download DDU (https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/), and extract it to your desktop into its own folder.

Step 3, disconnect from the internet entirelly.

Step 4, boot into safe mode.

Step 5, run ddu. Keep all options at default. Select the gpu driver (intel, nvidia, amd) then click, "clean and restart" the recomended option.

Step 6, when pc boots, install that gpu driver you downloaded prior.

Step 7, after the gpu driver installs, hook back to the internet.

If this does not fix your issue. Most likely you have a virus from visiting those dumb ass forums. You will need to reinstall windows to be sure no remnant of it are left.

#

You could still download bitdefender free, along with malwarebytes free, and run them before doing so. But chances are, its a virus, or something else is really messed up with windows. If you ran the prompts I told you to properly, and nothing was found, then something else is going on and I'd advise a clean install of windows regardless.

Well unfortunately that did not work so i guess ill just have to bite the bullet and do a clean Windows install and fingers crossed that fixes it. And i typically dont internet surf on my pc although downloading a pirated game was just out of desperation i suppose. Appreciate all the help and ill definitely post an update once i get a fresh install.

@brittle peak eneded up taking it to a shop and it's all working now. Not sure what the issue was (sorry for a late update) but I just wanted to thank you for all ur help in trying to figure this out. Cheers!
