Why is it that at least on the b-series mobos that we are getting less sata ports, less audio connectors, and less pcie connectors? Also the amount of usb 3.0 seems to have decreased with the tradeoff of a usb-c and usb 3.1 or higher port when at least looking at MSI B350 to the MSI B 850 mobos and with current Asrock and Gigabyte mobos.

its to push people to buy the premium boards or to cut cost

premium boards dont have more sata ports (usually less), and they dont have more usb ports (usually faster)

I hate how on even b series mobos, we only get four sata ports on matx in some instances, when it was more common to have six or even right back then.

forest palm
#

people typically just do m.2 and then have a NAS for all their bulk

#

thats what i do

hasty scroll
#

i hate how we have less options intead of more

#

it would not have had been that bad if we kept more pcie connectors on matx boards since atx usually already has enough still

#

but mini itx amd boards only have 2 sata connectors from the ones ive seen

forest palm
#

and also HBA cards do exist

#

i get it its a fabricated problem but there is a GOOD solution

hasty scroll
#

and even the budget intel h610 mini itx boards have 4 sata ports

hasty scroll
#

since you only have one slot espically

forest palm
#

because im pretty shure u dont need a GPU for a NAS

#

im not running one

#

but ig if ur SFF and want more storage

#

(even still where would u put it)

hasty scroll
forest palm
#

u just got a mini ITX in a atx case or smthn?

hasty scroll
#

i was looking to go mini itx with a sff gpu and while having 2 slim dvd drives with with 2 2.5in hot swappable sata hdd/ssds in the front

#

which would make me need 4 sata ports

forest palm
#

you could get a internal usb dvd drive

hasty scroll
#

for burning and copying dvds while also having more expandable and a easier way to just transfer data in a more intergrated way

forest palm
#

i think those exist

hasty scroll
#

i know they do, but i was really looking for a more intergrated internal one

#

not by external means

forest palm
#

yea unfortuatly ur build is pretty uncommon

hasty scroll
#

the cheapest mini itx b850 board ive seen is already about 210 usd before tax

#

all that money yet i cant get more than 2 sata ports

forest palm
#

ur prob gonna have to go ROG STRIX for that connectivity

#

and gl getting those at a sane price

hasty scroll
#

and then theres intel with a 130 dollar h610 with 4 sata ports but their cpus run so hot that i wouldnt be able to cool it well with a lp cooler

#

and undercloking it that much is going to kill any performance

welcome to the life of a SFF pc builder

#

this is why i stuck with ATX

#

less problems

#

shure i cant bring my pc on a international trip

#

but i got parsec for that

hasty scroll
#

this is lowkey pretty cool 16 cores of zen 4 in a more affordable package

#

and its pretty low power for what it is

viscid crane
#

Limited PCIE, if that matters to you

hasty scroll
#

for a matx yeah

#

but this is still pretty sick

Desktop CPUs have a decent amount of pcie

#

Am5 has 20 usable, i don’t know about lga 1851

hasty scroll
#

does the chipset these days really need four pcie lanes?

#

like do they even saturate that amount?

#

wait wasnt it 24 useable?

viscid crane
#

I think it’s 24 total
