VCR showing a blue screen when paused

Ive recently came into possession of my granddads old VCR and I was wondering if it normal if a blue screen showing when paused is normal or if there is something i could do to make it not show? I tried looking on google but I cant find anything definitive

Most people in here have probably never used a vcr.

But my old ass has, and I can honestly say that none that I have ever used did a "blue screen", of any kind when paused.

All that should happen if maybe give a distorted image of whatever was happening on scene at the moment of being paused.

A solid blue screen was pretty typical as a "default signal" instead of noise if some VCR or set top cable box didn't have a good signal or wasn't tuned to a channel but can't say I'd seen ones that would do that when paused, usually would just stay stuck on whatever frame was last shown

Depending on the TV it may be interpereting it as a loss of signal due to the magnetic heads leaving the warped image.
