I have a hp 15-da0014dx and for some reason whenever it is on it wont charge. Only when it is shut off will it charge. Sometiems though if i wiggle the charger while it is on it will charge. While it is on if i plug the charger in the charging indicatitor light will just turn white. I'm wondering if its just a faulty battery or something else.

If the battery still seems to charge up and hold a charge afterwards I wouldn't point at it as any sort of issue, the charger itself could have some kind of loose connection or the charge port going into the laptop could have issues (somewhat common for charge ports to eventually break loose from whatever board they are soldered into to deliver power since often do get knocked around with plug inserted and can break the solder joints). If can find compatible charger with same barrel jack and voltage/wattage support should be able to swap without issue.

Effectively if a laptop/system is drawing more watts than the power supply/charger can supply then it won't have any extra watts to charge up the battery, if there's more resistance somewhere in that power delivery then the apparent power available can dip and the laptop might turn off battery charging in favor of staying on.

I mean easiest thing to try is just swap power cord, if that has same problem know it's not the power cord, but would have to take apart to see if the port going into the board is well connected and/or retouch with solder to stick it down.

All I was trying to say above though is if anything reducing the power (like bad connection) then the charge circuit not getting enough power then it could cut off charging in favor of passing the power through to the main board.
