Hi, I have a Samsung 860 Evo SSD (M+B Keyed) that I wanna use as fast external storage. Sadly im having trouble using it at all. My PC can detect it if i use my Ugreen adapter, but it's asking me to format it in Disk Manager to properly use it. Doing so brings up an error (When formatted as GPT and MBR). I have tried connecting it to other devices, such as my phone or my Arch-Linux laptop with no luck. I also have an NVMe to PCiE adapter, and i know that it works (at least it worked in my old PC), but my PCiE Lane in my current PC isn't detecting it or the drive. Anyone got any suggestions?

that is a pretty old disk, you sure it works?
why did you use it with a pcie thingy
but my PCiE Lane in my current PC isn't detecting it or the drive. Anyone got any suggestions?
the person that gave it to me claimed that they formatted it and that it worked, they had two and this is the second one
are you sure your stuff can do
dude let me answer lmao
never
so this is the second drive i got from them, same capacity and model. last time i ripped out my GPU to put it into my other two M.2 Slots and it didn't work, this time i tried everything else again, but didn't bother pulling out my GPU yet
i wanna use it in my external container anyway and that's where i've had the most success until now
yes or no can the thingy you are trying to use, use SATA
it says SATA M.2 on it, so i'm gonna assume that it does
looks like it does
NOT the disk itself the thing you are plugging into it
you mean the adapter?
yes
probably doesn't support sata
damn
i never knew this was a thing lol, NVMe looking SSDs using Sata
but also this makes it seem like it can use both
well, the more you know
what that it says it can only use SATA?
it says both M.2 and Sata on the SSD, online both words are seperated by a comma on the SSD
wut
but no pcie/NVME
m.2 is just a connector like lets say usb-c
you can have m.2 wifi card. m.2 NPUs and so on
My SSD adapter says that it can use M.2
SATA and NVME is a communication interface
im incredibly confused, reading the description on the UGreen site
send link
it keeps calling it M.2 Enclosure and NVMe enclosure
then it must be nvme only
I'll send the website link in a sec
the german and usa site are really different
The SKU is still 90541
i think its meant for this
Im so confused rn
XDDDDDDDDDDD
it literally told you
this is above the other products
IT KEEPS TELLING ME BOTH
where
yea but the image saying that it supports an M+B Key SATA SSD says that it does
b+m can support nvme
this image is next to all of the other product description images
can be nvme and sata or sata only
and it comes above the other produts
well i have Sata
this shit is making me lose braincells
the site keeps contradicting itself
so it's just not compatible with anything i own
cool
thanks for the help
M.2 and 2.5” are form factors
Nvme and sata are protocols
You can buy:
m.2 form factor nvme drives
m.2 form factor sata drives
2.5” form factor nvme drives
2.5” form factor sata drives
