#

do tcp too

hoary stump
#

this good?

cedar stirrup
#

fyi the internal IP is a LAN ip and not special

#

anyways yes tis fine

hoary stump
#

i feel stupid now

#

ill see if they can join

hoary stump
#

Anything else I could try?

cedar stirrup
#

what port are you using for the internal server and how are they trying to connect to you

cedar stirrup
#

port forward 7777

hoary stump
#

On both external and internal ports?

#

And TCP / UDP or both?

cedar stirrup
#

no clue what the query port does but i do not think its needed

#

so just swap them for 7777

cedar stirrup
hoary stump
#

For the internal IP adress should I just do my ipv4

cedar stirrup
#

i know what the issue might be

cedar stirrup
hoary stump
cedar stirrup
#

well you login to the ISP router and port forward

hoary stump
#

Idk what u mean

#

I am in my router

cedar stirrup
#

modem

hoary stump
cedar stirrup
#

you know the box that has the main internet cable going into it

hoary stump
#

yes

#

my router

cedar stirrup
#

right now you are inside a 3rd party asus AP/router combo thingy

hoary stump
#

so im using it as my main router for my house

cedar stirrup
#

wait is it just connected from the ONT to the asus router

hoary stump
#

yeah basically I didn't need a router when I got this ISP because I already had one

#

I plugged it in and they told me to put in some login information

#

and then I had wifi

cedar stirrup
#

i need a pic of this networking setup

hoary stump
#

like a pic of my router?

cedar stirrup
#

that too but are you able to also take a pic of the networking closet if you have that

#

i wanna check if it goes from fiber to ONT to ISP modem to then router or if its ONT then router

hoary stump
#

would it be any of these options

cedar stirrup
#

yay

cedar stirrup
hoary stump
#

then I got a bunch of other cords plugging into other LAN stuff like my PC

cedar stirrup
#

what ISP do you have

hoary stump
#

so not sure if you'd know them

#

Pentanet

cedar stirrup
cedar stirrup
hoary stump
#

it says its closed

#

who wouldve known

#

that does however help bc we know its not my router

#

could it possibly be bc of a firewall in windows

cedar stirrup
#

it is possible

#

there is a reason why i try and not host anything on windows

hoary stump
#

how could i check

cedar stirrup
#

not really sure

hoary stump
cedar stirrup
#

are you sure the server is running

hoary stump
#

im able to join locally

cedar stirrup
#

m yea true

hoary stump
#

ive made a portal account for pentanet

cedar stirrup
#

try and port forward both the query port and the main port but just do 7777 for 7777 and the other for the other one for tcp and another for udp

hoary stump
#

okay will do

#

for the internal ip address

#

thats just my ipv4?

cedar stirrup
#

yes

hoary stump
#

should i do anything for the source IP

cedar stirrup
#

nothing

hoary stump
#

ok

#

and for the 7777 ports should I do UDP or both

cedar stirrup
#

both

hoary stump
#

okay done

cedar stirrup
#

try the port open thingy

hoary stump
#

still saying its closed for 7777 and 27015

cedar stirrup
#

then you have a ISP modem in the mix by the look of it

hoary stump
#

And how do I get around that

cedar stirrup
#

best way is to just figure out how to login to the ISP modem and port forward

hoary stump
#

alright

#

i got no idea how to do that

#

but

#

I can maybe make a ticket and ask my ISP?

cedar stirrup
hoary stump
#

alright will take a look

#

If I want to get port fowarding working in the future though what could I do?

cedar stirrup
#

try and find the ISP router and login to it

#

so yeah making a ticket can be the move

#

if they claim there is nothing then maybe disabling all of windows firewall for a short time to check ports can be a good test.

hoary stump
#

But what exactly am I asking them to do

#

Should I just say I am unable to port foward?

cedar stirrup
#

you can ask if you have a modem or if its just a ONT

#

ONT only converts fiber to rj45 internet, most installations has a IPS modem/ combo box that does wifi and a few other things so you are not required to have lots of extra stuff just to get internet working

hoary stump
#

I do know I have fiber optic internet

#

thats abt all I could tell you lol

#

I'll just chuck a few things into chat gpt and send it off and see what they have to say tmr

#

okay ive just done that and Ill try the thing you sent me

#

tysm for your help @cedar stirrup

misty ember
#

Internet for them is the same as the rest of the world @cedar stirrup

#

They will have an isp provider the internet, that connects to a modem / router / hub whatever all they have

#

So troubleshooting will be the same

cedar stirrup
#

no i meant as in some ISP do just ONT then you can do what you want while others you need the ISP modem

misty ember
#

Oh, the all in one modem / routers? Like what spectrum does?

cedar stirrup
#

yus

#

in Norway its very very common

misty ember
#

The isp should still have a login for it.

#

If not they will have a 192.168.1.1 style logon

cedar stirrup
#

i did think so aka why i referred him to the user portal thingy

misty ember
#

Yeah, you goodm

hoary stump
#

so yh i sent a ticket to my ISP

#

unfortunately its night time so i wont get a msg until tomorrow morning

cedar stirrup
#

how late is it now

hoary stump
#

10 PM

cedar stirrup
#

might be time to get ready for bed for you, anyways have you tried out playit?

hoary stump
#

trying to get that working right now

misty ember
#

Playit is still around?

#

Or steams play together

#

Unless you want like 10 or so people to join

hoary stump
#

i got no idea what im doing with this lol

#

im just following a guide online but seems its updated a lot since he posted

misty ember
#

Its probably for old ark, and not ascended. Though it's going to be the same

hoary stump
hoary stump
#

otherwise ill just wait until tmrw

misty ember
#

Depends on the isp, the equipment. I cant honestly answer that.

misty ember
#

Some dont even give access

hoary stump
#

why not?

misty ember
#

No, alot of the satellite companies dont

#

Just added security, and a way to charge more.

hoary stump
#

found this tho

misty ember
#

Like I said, it all depends. Spectrum gives limited access. That's a US based one. And again, depends on your equipment.

hoary stump
#

Makes sense

#

Appreciate both of your help today

#

I'll send a msg tomorrow on this when my ISP has got back to me.

misty ember
#

No worries. I work 3rd shift so I'm getting ready for bed myself.

#

Yeah they will be able to tell you more or provide the login.

hoary stump
hoary stump
misty ember
#

Usualy do. Thanks. Good luck.

hoary stump
#

Thank you

hoary stump

Hello, sorry all for the late reply. I was told by my ISP that they have no blocks in place to prevent port fowarding and game hosting on their end. They said that the reason for the port fowarding is likely due to the service currently being on Carrier-Grade NAT rather than having a dedicated public IP adress and that if I spend another $10 a month it can be added to my service which I will probably go through with. In regards to the modem, there should be a box (ONT) installed in my home somewhere which I believe I know the location of. The box itself doesnt affect my ability to port foward.

misty ember
#

The modem absolutely can
