eh?
Yes, internet
@hoary pasture did you make this post?
@hoary pasture yes, very internet.
yes
why was original msg deleted
I have probelem with my internet
I am not getting good internet range on my latpop but I am getting perfectly good net on my other laptop at same place
I am getting very bad wifi on my laptop but very good on the other AT SAME RANGE
the other laptop might have a better antenna
but my laptop had good net bfr
did you open it?
its my brothers hand-me-down and he might have cuz I saw him applying thermal paste on it
then he might have forgotten to put one of the antennas back on or damaged it
Yeah, hardware is my bet here too.
With no antennas on a WiFi card, you can usually see WiFi networks and sometimes connect to them, but speed will be terrible if it manages to do a test at all
a damaged cable can do what we are seeing but high chance its also just terrible antennas
Iām assuming his brother had no wifi problems, so he probably bunged it up when reapplying thermal paste
Did it have good WiFi connectivity before it was re-pasted? If so, then what others have said above is likely.
idk
nah the thermal paste was long time ago
even after that it worked good
it only got bad when i reset the pc for my own use
yk how to fix this
I'd start by ensuring my drivers are up-to-date, then troubleshoot by moving the device within 10ft of the router and re-test speeds. If it's still crap near the router, there's likely something wrong with the device's hardware.
my drivers are up to date
I used iobit driver booster
š¤£
?
Yeah um, no don't do that. NEVER ever use "driver booster" software.
so?
Visit the manufacturer's website and get the drivers from there.
but iobit is trusted??
i did but idk why on hp they dont have windows 11 only windows 10 as software
It's not a case of it being trusted - it's that the manufacturer is the only one who actually knows which drivers to use. Go into Device Manager > Network Adapters and take a screenshot. Once we know what WiFi chipset is in the laptop, we may be able to tell you where to get newer drivers.
Realtek. 𤢠𤮠Right-click the RTL8821CE adapter, then choose Properties, then screenshot the Driver tab.
And what's the EXACT model number of this laptop? (You can also get the HP P/N from the bottom of laptop.)
wait
uh
when i download things in background they get 90mb/s download speed but when i download them on foreground it drops to 16??
nah this is confusing
the speedtest.net is showing I am getting 11mb/s both in foregrund and background
but when I am downloading gta its showing 105mb/s in background and drops to like 16 in foreground
Oof yeah that's an older laptop, and not a very high end one either.
Is it possible... perhaps... you're confusing MBps with mbps? (Screenshots of your tests might help us help you.)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Stadia/comments/c04tab/psa_a_reminder_of_the_difference_between_mbs_and/
can u help with this
why is it more in background
than foreground
No idea; I've never run into this scenario before.
Was this test run while beside the router? And are you connected to 2.4GHz or 5GHz?
5ghz
yes
its like 3feet away from router
Okay. For giggles, try connecting to 2.4GHz. You'll of course be limited to 2.4GHz speeds (usually tops out between 40-80mbps) but I'm curious to know if the 2.4GHz band offers more consistently stable speeds with this laptop.
ok
That said, since it "got bad after you reset the PC" this screams something is missing or was added to the laptop after the reset that's impacting WiFi speeds. Could be a bad set of drivers, or a piece of software. Impossible for us to know because we never used the laptop before it was reset.
Wow. Those are not the speeds a working WiFi card should get on 2.4GHz, even if it were a device from 15 years ago.
ik
Only other thing I can suggest is verifying the antennas are indeed connected to the WiFi card inside the laptop, which requires opening the case, and then trying the older drivers HP has on their website for Windows 10. (Most drivers for Windows 10 should work on Windows 11.)
is it possible to know
well my brother usedwindows 10 before
I used windows 11
use*
Yes, sure, if you have a backup of the laptop's storage drive from before you reset it. Otherwise... impossible.
Righto, so you could also try installing Windows 10 on the laptop. It would be really weird for the WiFi card to perform drastically differently, but really, all you can do is try different driver versions on different OS's until you narrow down the cause / what works well.
is ti possible to downgrade os without losing all files??
bruh I rlly dont know how to downgrade os, any recommended tutorials, my brother knows but hes not home rn
he will come like 2-3weeks later
Always, ALWAYS have a backup before doing anything on a computer. (In fact, always have a backup regardless - you never know when a storage drive might outright die on you.)
Follow these steps, BUT BUT BUT use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool instead of the Windows 11 one.
https://www.howtogeek.com/874846/how-to-do-a-clean-install-of-windows-11/#option-1-clean-install-windows-11-from-a-usb-drive
https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10
so all the files will be gone unless I make a backup
dumb ques but how do i do that.. like copy my drive on an external one or like upload it to google drive??
ok
I could've known that before š
I just downloaded gta which is like 92mb
Yep - you'd make copies of important files on an external drive, or cloud storage service. Personally, I'm a fan of cloud storage for it's automagic redundancy (the provider keeps multiple copies of the data) vs. a local backup to a single drive (example: if your local backup fails while your PC is being repaired, you lose your files), but of course cloud storage costs $$$ so this is entirely up to you.
just a ques but how long would it take to downgrade to 10
I think I need 1 pendrive?? do i??
As long as the computer takes to install Windows 10. I have absolutely no clue exactly what hardware is in your particular HP 14s-dk0xxx laptop. For example, if it's got an HDD, it's gonna take a while.
Yes, you either need a 8GB or a 16GB (I can't remember) to create a Windows 10/11 installer. I generally recommend keeping a couple dedicated drives around with the Windows installer on them so you have a way to reinstall in case your only computer's Windows installation corrupts itself.
nah I have Standard disk drive not hdd
Um. "Standard Disk Drive" isn't a thing... you either have an HDD (physical spinning magnetic disk) or an SSD (solid state electronic storage). "Standard disk drive" could mean either of those, as both HDDs and SSDs are standard depending on the computer.
wt-
how do i check that
I has a SSD
Task Manager is the easiest way.
I have SSD
Then reinstalling shouldn't take too long - maybe an hour to install Windows to the system itself? Updates / internet connected things may take longer.
how many disks do u need š
bro u have the entire alphabet
Many, many disks. For many, many datas. š
how much data do u have
20+ years of games, movies, music, and videos. I haven't done a tally in a while - was over 10TB last I checked.
10t-
ok we can just pray that network works after downgrading to windows 10
idk I am scared to do it I dont rlly wanna uhh I will take it to a technician sometime later
for now I will work with it
I would recommend downloading the WiFi drivers from HP's website before doing so, just in case the base Windows 10 install doesn't have built-in drivers for the WiFi card.
Fair enough - don't do anything you're not comfortable with. A sort of working computer is better than one that isn't working at all. (In most cases.)
I checked on hp website but they didnt ave drivers for windows 11
I addressed that already. See my prior reply: #1363508877085249628 message
