hi
ping me when ur on ur pc
yo im here
windows 10 and because my pc is a bit older (bought in 2019) it still has BIOS mode set as legacy (and you cannot enable secure boot on legacy)
What motherboard are you using ?
You can find the exact name in the application named System Information
Under the baseboard variable
im using asrock b450m and it supports secure boot (already checked)
Ok
Since your BIOS mode is on Legacy, your Windows partition is in MBR mode
we want to convert it to GPT first
and then switch the bios mode
Do you know how to boot into recovery mode?
yes exactly ✅ and as i know if i switch from legacy to uefi without switching the windows partition from MBR (which i have now) to GPT i will brick my pc and lock myself out from operating system right?
ye "bricking" is a too strong a word for this because you wont damage your components or something like that
ok do you wanna get it done
^^
why would i need this?
recovery mode has an advanced command prompt that you'll use to convert ur windows partition to gpt
oh alright.. its a little bit scary for me to "convert" my disk because it has a lot of data
well, backup all important files off the os drive and then proceed
You should always keep a backup of your data somewhere safe, regardless of whatever you're doing on your computer. For example: what would you do tomorrow if your drive was suddenly dead? Backup important data you cannot easily re-download or re-create, then perform the MBR to GPT disk conversion.
What would you recommend? Maunally copying the "desktop", "videos" in the file explorer or just use built-in tool to make a backup?
Yeah good idea..
whatever your preference is. i like manually copying because i can go thru my files and see what i actually care about and just delete all the accumulated junk over time
Oh alright.. if i use the built-in one it won't copy the video-game files on there right (because i have some games installed)
