The problem is when I play Fortnite and apex legends I get stutters and frame drops on all setting and don't know how to fix this do I just get the money back?

The website that I got from they replaced the GPU,RAM and CPU and that didn't work then they made me a new pc and I still have the same issues.

When I got the pc back all I did was download chrome and Fortnite to test it and then I found out its still wasn't fixed.

I also used the pc on new monitor, keyboard, mouse, cables and plugged it into the router

Do you have a short recording?

cobalt token
#

Honestly both of these games run a bit rough

#

They’re not hard to run, just the lows are terrible

latent ingot
latent ingot
#

It also happens on dead by daylight too

#

Do have more clips if you need

magic heron
#

@latent ingot I just wanted to see if it could be a network issue because a lot of people mistake rubberbanding with stuttering.

latent ingot
#

Oh ok have any ideas

magic heron
#

Stuttering can be pretty much anything and it's a pain in the ass to track down.

latent ingot
#

Could it be the hardware still even tho they changed all the parts but the fans, case and cpu cooler

magic heron
#

I've seen something as stupid as a fan controller do worse things than cause stuttering.

latent ingot
#

Oh so it could still be the hardware

#

Where should I start or should I try to get the money back and get it from a different company

mellow bough
#

It could be hdr, gsync / freesync, vsync .... slew of things that can cause it. Start with using only one monitor. Physically unhook the second one for now, so there is only one port being used in the back of the gpu.

If that solves nothing, make sure gsync, vsync, hdr is not being used.

latent ingot
latent ingot
#

I'm pretty sure i turned gsync, vsync and hdr off and did it one at a time

#

I did customize this pc but the things that I changed was ram, power supply, and added cpu cooler and fans then after returning it back for the third time upgraded to rtx 4070 super from rtx 4070

#

But they said that was all parts work together us that right?

latent ingot
#

Fortnite, apex legends and dead by daylight happenings on all settings also the monitor are 165hz 1080p and 144hz 1080p

#

What game in the video

#

The huge stutter reminds me of when VRAM is over subscribed and it loads a scene by caching onto the DRAM.

#

‘Cause that’s not just a stutter. It’s like 1.5-2seconds of no movement. It’s a huge stutter

latent ingot
#

So what should I do I sent it back three time they haven't fixed it

#

They had problems with the gpu, cpu and ram when I sent it back for the first or second time

mellow bough
latent ingot
#

Then when I sent it back again we changed something in the bios and I wouldn't have changed anything but then got no display on the monitors

#

Then they replaced everything but the fans and cpu cooler

#

And case

mellow bough
#

I mean, you should be running bios at defaults with xmp enabled. Thats it. Unless you are getting into overclocking or you have a 13th or 14th gen cpu that is having issues.

latent ingot
#

This stressing me and dont know how to fix it

#

We did no overclocking

mellow bough
#

Right, you would never need to with a 9800x3d. Same cpu i have atm.

#

When you update bios, it will "should" reset back to defaults. So you will need to enable xmp anyway.

latent ingot
#

Then I ask the company why It didn't display and they just said it probably was something was moved in shipping

mellow bough
#

I mean, I can't say without physically looking at it.

latent ingot
mellow bough
#

Just make sure you are not plugging your monitor into the motherboard

latent ingot
#

Dont think I am but I'll check

mellow bough
#

Take a photo of the back of your pc

#

Showing the ports in the back

latent ingot
#

Ok

mellow bough
#

Is that everything? At least by that you are plugged into the gpu

#

And you are 100% positive the cables work? You have tried them elsewhere and they were fine?

latent ingot
#

Yes we tired it down stairs and still got the problem

mellow bough
#

Yeah, at that point then, update bios, and enable xmp afterm

latent ingot
#

Here are another picture

mellow bough
#

Do you have another pc in the house you can hook your gpu into?

latent ingot
#

I do

mellow bough
#

Check to make sure the gpu in this pc works in the other one. If it doesn't, you know it's the gpu lol.

#

Or you can even take the gpu from the other pc and try it in yours.

#

Up to you honestly. If you use another gpu in yours you will quickly see if there are any issues, and if the gpu works in another pc you know it ain't the gpu

latent ingot
#

Ok

#

Thanks I'll keep you updated when get chance to do that

mellow bough
#

No worries, i work 3rd shift so I very well might be asleep. But I'll see the update later tonight.

latent ingot
#

Ok

wind ice
#

Is SMT and reBAR enabled in BIOS?

#

Actually, you can check that through cpu-z and gpu-z just incase also

latent ingot
#

Also the video that I have shown is not even bad stutter I have had 5 second stutter and I thought my game crashed

wind ice
#

Play and have event viewer in the background. Once you get the hang like that, check event viewer.

#

You should have a message of some kind that can point us in the right direction albeit if it is cpu, ram or gpu related. My experience that’s a memory issue, but it could be any of the 3 components causing an issue. That’s less of a stutter and more like a process hanging.

#

Also have your stats overlay on. With frame time, micro stutter, gpu/cpu usages also

latent ingot
#

Ok also if I buy a pre prebuild pc am going have less problems than buying a custom pc

#

whats a event viewer?

wind ice
#

Type in your start menu/task bar event viewer

latent ingot
#

Ok done that

#

What should I do now

latent ingot
#

could game bar cause the issues?

wind ice
#

Look at error messsges, warnings

#

But play a game. See the stutter the. Do it

#

So you know what’s causing it

#

Or record the time and check back for error at the time of your issues

latent ingot
wind ice
#

What was the error

latent ingot
#

I don't know what I'm look at to be honest

wind ice
#

I’ve never seen that error before. Someone else may have that can help. From google I can only link you this and say try these. As it seems windows software related. A timeout on software can hang like your stutter I guess. So it’s worth a shot.

#

Fixed 1-3 are what I would try in that article.

latent ingot
#

Ok

#

Ok also if I bought a prebuild pc am going have less problems than buying a custom pc?

magic heron
#

That would be up to you. If it bothers you, yes.

latent ingot
magic heron
#

You could try installing Linux and see if that stutters.

#

If it doesn't, it could be a program or driver

latent ingot
#

What's linux?

latent ingot
magic heron
#

It's unlikely that it's the shop's fault. So I wouldn't have any concern with getting a different machine from them.

magic heron
#

For a new user, it's a pain in the ass to run, this would just be for testing.

latent ingot
magic heron
#

It can't find it, it would tell you if it's hardware or software.

latent ingot
magic heron
#

Again, up to you

latent ingot
#

Oh ok

#

Ummm

magic heron
#

If it still stutters, it's almost certainly hardware. Because all the software has changed

latent ingot
#

Ok so I just download that then what should i do after that?

magic heron
#

It's more complicated than that. It's a different operating system so you have to either install it to a different drive than Windows, or replace the Windows install (You can dual boot, but dual booting from the same drive is sketchy)

latent ingot
#

Ok well dont know anything about pcs really so I shouldn't really do that right?

#

How complicated is it?

magic heron
#

@latent ingot Here is a video guide, you can look through it and decide for yourself if it's something you think you can do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ekoWV4Li4k

Ready to explore the world of Linux? In this guide, I’ll walk you through installing Pop!_OS 22 by System76 from start to finish. Learn how to create a bootable Pop!_OS USB drive using Rufus on Windows 11, followed by step-by-step instructions for the installation process. I’ll also cover some essential configurations and highlight the features ...

▶ Play video
#

That's the Linux version I would recommend because it's more ready for gaming than other Linux versions.

#

Linux has so many versions it will make your head spin

magic heron
# latent ingot Is this risky to do?

Worst case scenario, reinstall Windows. Just keep a USB flash drive with Windows on hand. And note that installing an OS wipes the drive you install to.

#

(Ignore the Linux part, use the video for Linux)

latent ingot
#

So it is risky

magic heron
#

It's not something I would categorize as risky.

latent ingot
#

But for a beginner

magic heron
#

Sure, if you don't know how to create a Windows installer, you could get stuck

latent ingot
#

Oh ok

#

Also just wondering do you think it's easy for a beginner to make a pc

magic heron
#

If you feel that this is more complicated than what you can handle, don't do it.

magic heron

#

Ok thanks for help I do appreciate it

latent ingot
#

I have one more question if I bought a prebuild pc am I going have less problems than buying a custom pc?

wind ice
#

Not really. Sure someone else has made it and should have tested it but prebuilts don’t use proprietary parts unless you buy from someone shit like dell or Alienware

#

You’ll have to pay quite a bit more for your spec

latent ingot
#

Ok thanks

latent ingot
#

ok did some more testing and been playing apex and im not getting any stutters or frame drops

wind ice
#

That’s good result. Try out more games and hopefully whatever you’ve done. It’s gone

latent ingot
#

But fortnite is still doing it

wind ice
#

Try running DX11 and pre-download streamed assets

latent ingot
#

It's fine I'm getting refund thanks for the help tho really appreciated

latent ingot
wind ice
#

Only if you tried to pull too much across the whole extension than is rated for the plug socket

#

If it’s just your PC stuff you’re fine

#

I always have my PSU direct to wall and monitors and speakers on extension tbh.

#

I’m just paranoid about stable power draw but.. it’s absolutely fine to plug all in an extension.

latent ingot
mellow bough
wind ice
#

A lot of homes in the UK have now been fitted with devices to do this at socket level. I know my house was when rewired 3 years ago.

mellow bough
#

Yeah.... all our sockets in the us are "always on" sockets. I wish we had the sockets you guys do where we could turn them off or on at the actual socket itself.

wind ice
#

That’s just standard. Surge prevention is relatively new here in the sense that most houses were built way before anyone put them in. They’re not required but due to reliance on electronics a lot of house builders and electricians wire with them now

magic heron
#

The two left devices are surge protectors, the two on the right are over power protectors, but they only care if the power is more than the cables in the wall can handle.

wind ice
#

Yeah.

#

Took them ages to fit in my rented property because it was built in the 30s 😂

@latent ingot

#

Thanks for watching! In this video, we talk about a potential fix for windows stuttering while playing games or running applications. Trust me when I say this works. Still working 2024 and also for Windows 11 (although steps may vary) !!

damn that’s why I bought a used pc off ebay for £300 and bought parts to upgrade it myself: ram, ssd and gpu and cpu total cost was £650 in the end and I’m very happy with it

#

also got a free 500gb ssd with the pc
