I have a R7 5700X3D (105W)
and will soon get an RX9070(220W)
i need a new PSU and i wanna know if its wort spending a bit extra to get a 750W instead of 650W.

#

note: i will most likely not upgrade this pc in the future

golden elbow
#

What psu do you have

analog hatch
#

hehe

#

remember me? i have that 750W bomb power supply

golden elbow
#

Aaaa yes that psu

#

What new psus are you looking at

analog hatch
#

well i finaly bought the gpu so now im actualy looking for a purchase

analog hatch
#

maybe a semi modular would be nice if there are any at that low price

analog hatch
#

and only need 2x 8pin

golden elbow
#

Go for anything b or a

analog hatch
#

is it better to have a psu with more power?

#

like its gonna go more easy on it self?

golden elbow
#

I would just grab the 750 for room yo upgrade or something

analog hatch
#

i wont. im still on am4

#

ill most likely just sell the whole pc once i want to upgrade

golden elbow
#

That will he a while away

#

Anyways 650w should be fine

golden elbow
#

Not the best but good enough

analog hatch
#

wait i dont need to worry about size right? i have an atx case so it should all fit?

#

wait

#

i think the powersupply has 2x 6+2pins but its daisychained

#

isnt that bad?

#

shouldnt i be using 2 seperate cables to power a 2x8pin gpu?

dreamy pollen
#

It comes with 2 cables, 4 connectors according to their site

analog hatch
#

it also says 5x sata and you know sata connectors are always daisy chained

analog hatch
#

i contacted MSI and they did not recommend the daisy chain

golden elbow
#

the cables can do 300w but the connector can only do 150 well rated for it

dreamy pollen
#

The Daisy chain is fine. In theory you got 600w of power in those 2 cables.

analog hatch
#

i see that be quiet uses a 2x6 connector that splits into 2 8pins

#

but im also now just looking for psu's that just have 2 or more separate 8pin connectors

dreamy pollen
#

1000w+ PSUs will. You can buy more cables for modular PSUs individually

analog hatch
#

@golden elbow i finally got my psu but one of the cables came broken

analog hatch
#

i probably shouldnt use this cable right?

golden elbow
#

na its fine

analog hatch
#

really?

golden elbow
#

as long as it just stays there and you do not put any major stain on it its fine

#

just make sure when its in the pc that its all the way in

analog hatch
#

i mean yeah i guess its not gonna move

#

but still, i mean its literally brand new and already broken

#

who do i contact for a new cable?

#

straight to corsair?

#

or amazon

dreamy pollen
#

It’s just plastic shrouding. Looks like someone smoothed it out by hand

analog hatch
#

who smooths out a latch?

golden elbow
#

nope dat is just broken off

dreamy pollen
#

I was looking at the split at the top

golden elbow
#

you can contact corsair about a replacement cable and just use that one for the time being

analog hatch
#

💀 im gonna have to reinsert the 24pin multiple times

golden elbow
#

2 times

analog hatch
#

yeah but that shit is like an excalibur

golden elbow
#

na

analog hatch
#

if i tell corsair i need a new cable, they will just send it right?

#

im not gonna have to return stuf?

golden elbow
#

just show the pic of the broken cable and they should just ship a cable from my understanding

analog hatch
golden elbow
analog hatch
#

i like the confidence

analog hatch
#

i hate my case

#

i have to take out my motherboard if i want to remove the cpu cable

golden elbow
#

had a case like that and yup its not fun

analog hatch
#

should i just cut the cable?

golden elbow
#

no

#

you would still need the new one through

analog hatch
#

the only reson i would keep this psu is as a backup

#

and its not even worth selling

#

if i cut the cable i can save my self a headache and an hour

analog hatch
analog hatch
#

wait

#

can i keep my cpu cooler on while taking the motherboard out?

golden elbow
#

yes but it will not be easy

#

O NO that usb 3 cable

#

also why do you have a tpm 2.0 thingy

#

another thing i have the same motherboard

analog hatch
#

tpm was for windows 11

golden elbow
#

your cpu has tpm 2.0

analog hatch
#

the motherboard needs it

golden elbow
#

no

analog hatch
#

i had a r5 2600

golden elbow
#

that supports windows 11, just need to update the bios

analog hatch
#

well i did all this long ago when w11 was still new

#

did that benchmark thing and it said i needed tpm

#

so i bought the dongle for like 10€

golden elbow
#

o well

#

does nothing other then be there

analog hatch
#

and the usb 3

golden elbow
#

is uhm

#

yeeeah

#

i have no clue how you managed that

analog hatch
#

i had someone else install the cpu for me

#

i couldn't bother tinkering with the pc at that time

golden elbow
#

the cooler is upside down, does nothing for performance but just looks a bit strange with the text the wrong way

analog hatch
#

XD i didnt realise

#

i dont look at it anyway

#

its under my desk

golden elbow
#

same

analog hatch
#

any tips on what i can do while i have the whole pc disassembled?

golden elbow
#

take a towl and clean the dust

analog hatch
#

im sad couse ill be doing all of this all over again probably soon

golden elbow
#

why?

analog hatch
#

my curent temps aren't horrible but they could be much better

#

so i want a new case

golden elbow
analog hatch
#

i dont like my gpu whining at 3k rpm

#

and the new one will use even more power

golden elbow
#

but have a better cooler

analog hatch
#

this slit is the only air intake

golden elbow
#

what are temps like

analog hatch
#

probably throttling because in software it has a 83 limit

#

and cpu 60 to 70

golden elbow
#

those are plenty good enough

analog hatch
#

but before i undervolted it it was 87

#

i know the temps arend dangerous or anything. its just fans whining at almost full load

golden elbow
#

welp that will be fixed with the new gpu

analog hatch
#

?

#

its gonna be a 2 fan 220W

golden elbow
#

better cooler and probs ptm 7950

#

gonna beat out anything you have now

analog hatch
#

ptm 7950?

#

whats that?

golden elbow
#

cool stuff

#

in short it allows for better thermal transfer from the heat making chip to the cooler itself

analog hatch
#

im still thinking i might go and grab one more fan

#

but then again its gonna be stipid if im gonna be buying a new case anyways

analog hatch
#

is this thing just for rgb?

golden elbow
#

Yea

analog hatch
#

good psu, u did ur job for many years

#

and yes that top is covered in dust

analog hatch
#

@golden elbow does the motherboard have to lach behing those small latches?

#

do i hook in the motherboard or am i just placing it inside the case and push it to the end of the case

analog hatch
#

💀 finaly done and thank god everything booted first try

#

never buy a cheap case kids
