#Solved 9070 XT New PC Build No Display

Just finished up building my 9070 XT build

Using some parts from my old build and new ones

Decided to build everything together then try it out when I should have turned it on and every possible build step

So when I turn it on now I get no display via my monitor, this is including the motherboard hdmi port which would say at least something even without iGPU

the hard drives are make noises, the CPU fan is spinning but the GPU fan isn't spinning

Did you only install the gpu and nothing else?

mild wraith
#

There is a orange light on the motherboard but I'm guessing it's just colour scheme on it rather than error code

#

My motherboard is Aorus x570 Elite Rev 1.0

hollow beacon
#

It's a error code

#

Wtf it does not have ez debug leds

mild wraith
#

I did look through the manual and the light isn't referenced as an error code

#

I could try a speaker

#

I think I have one

hollow beacon
#

Did it work before the gpu upgrade?

mild wraith
#

This is a different motherboard

#

Like CPU is different

#

Memory is the same

#

Psu is the same

#

GPU is different

hollow beacon
#

You forgot to update the bios

mild wraith
#

Nah

#

I did that

#

I knew the bios would be out of date

hollow beacon
#

To the latest?

mild wraith
#

Waited until the orange light went off for the bios update

hollow beacon
#

Qflash

#

Wait why not update before the upgrade

mild wraith
#

Different motherboard

#

I had a 450m before

hollow beacon
#

What?

#

You went from am4 to am4???

#

O well

mild wraith
#

Yea

#

I had 3900X before

hollow beacon
#

Did the parts work before you changed the gpu?

mild wraith
#

Thinking that might be the issue

#

And it hangs on VGA I can tell now since this one has colour LEDs

#

But that doesn't make much sense

#

Ah okay

I mean, gpus, especially brand new ones like the 90 series, are going to have issues. Especially being first iteration.

So long as you made sure all the cables are plugged in properly, and gpu is inserted properly.... if that still doesn't work, try another gpu and see if it boots up. If it does, you know the gpu is faulty.

Could be that too, but swapping gpus "should" tell us one way or another

hollow beacon
#

yus

#

could even be the nvme

round mirage
#

This is why I love having multiple components I've collected over the years, so I can test stuff lol

hollow beacon
#

well i have like 30 computers

#

so testing is not hard for me'

#

if i get broken stuff i just put it in like 4 computers to test

round mirage
#

Pretty much. Between my buddy always giving me stuff, and stuff I bought over the years. Kinda in the same boat. The amount of totes I have filled with stuff drives me nuts at times.

mild wraith
#

So I found a post on Reddit that explained what I think is happening @round mirage @hollow beacon

hollow beacon
#

o boy

mild wraith
#

Basically I need 3x8 pin for the GPU to turn on, instead of just 8x2, I was thinking the gpu got power from the pcie slot as well but it doesn't

#

I need either directly 12 pin cable or 3x8 pin

#

I only have 2x8 pin on my PSU so I need to order another cable

hollow beacon
#

does it not have a pigtail?

mild wraith
hollow beacon
mild wraith
#

Yea

#

But I only have one of those cables

#

As in with the pigtail

hollow beacon
#

is there not more in the PSU box

mild wraith
hollow beacon
#

what psu do you have

mild wraith
#

Corsair CX-750F RGB 750w PSU

hollow beacon
#

that has 4 ports for cpu/pcie

#

so you should be fine but the seller is sad

mild wraith
#

Yeah like I might have gotten another cable like the box says it should be 2x6+2 but I don't remember getting it

soft raptor
#

You need more than 2 PCIe connections for a 12vhwpr adapter. Had this last week and once someone used an additional cable it turned on fine.

soft raptor
#

Not sure why as in theory, you’ve got more than enough power. Must be a limitation on how 12vhwpr takes its power through an adapter

round mirage
#

I have a seasonic psu, bought the 4080 when it came out. They "said" their 12vhwpr which is a 2- 3 pcie cable would be enough .... it was not

soft raptor
#

I guess choosing a card with 12vhwpr instead of PCIe for an AMD card was a bad choice

#

Although I guess you’d still need a new cable anyway as this gpu would be a minimum 3 pin connection

round mirage
#

Yarp

hollow beacon
#

he has 2/4 pcie/cpu plugs but each cable from the psu can do 300w

#

while 6+2 is only rated for 150

mild wraith
#

I just have a gut feeling it isn't gonna work cause it's two 8 pins to 12, which is basically the same as the adapter unless I'm missing something

soft raptor
#

I never pigtail but genuinely curious now if I misunderstand or not.

hollow beacon
#

the plug itself is rated for 150w but the cable can be anything you want

#

well not something that cant do those 150w

#

so most tend to do cables that can do 300w and just use pigtails

soft raptor
#

Makes sense. I thought I had a big misunderstanding there.

Solved 9070 XT New PC Build No Display

#

Wanted to give an update i ordered an 8 pin cable yesterday and it arrived today so using the adapter

#

Everything works now, thanks for the help everyone

round mirage
#

👍

soft raptor
#

A shame the adapter cable isn’t longer to hide those connections a bit better

#

And take that protective plastic coating off the front of the GPU. Heat is already peeling it away 😉

mild wraith
#

@soft raptor should be long enough, just a bit frustrated after the whole ordeal, outside of that my windows install broke (files are still there) so I'm having to reinstall it

#

I'll take the plastic off once im happy with it
