Game in question is Dead by Daylight Steam version
Fixes tried:

Contacting DbD support with the following tries at fixing:
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- sfc /scannow
- Clean boot
- Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables x86 and x64
- Reinstall the game and then verify files

Other fixes tried:
- DX12 launch option added
- DX11 launch option added
- DDU (DDU with no internet, restart, ddu again with no internet, restart and reinstalled drivers before connnecting internet
- Stress test GPU to look for any issues with 3DMark
- Play other games that use DX11/DX12 like Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, etc to try and replicate the issue to no avail
- Ensure windows is up to date
- Reinstalled windows

I do need the latest driver because it supports fragpunk and I am using DLSS on that

fluid charm
#

Well, just know it could be happening due to the driver.

haughty aspen
#

Problem is this issue has been happening on 3 different driver versions but only started after the game had an update

fluid charm
#

Dlss 4 = better visuals, less fps

#

Dlss 3 = worse visuals, better fps

#

Dlss 3 quality is the same as dlss 4 balanced

#

So if you are using it for dlss, it's redundant. Download 566.36, boot into safe mode and use ddu to wipe all drivers, while being disconnected from the internet. Boot back into windows, install 566.36, then reconnect to the internet.

You will find out lol. Make sure it has all its rops @hushed vale

#

Im not sure if 5070s are effected, but 5080s and 90s are. I'd check just to make sure at this point.

hushed vale
#

I guess my 1070 would have to fiht just a little more before being put to rest

fluid charm
#

Lol, fair enough. Ridiculous the prices on components now.

hushed vale
fluid charm
#

This is where I'm lucky my friend works at a tech company. I get all this stuff for free once they are done benchmarking it.

hushed vale
#

bruh

#

can i get your friends number

fluid charm
#

Lol

#

Its where I got my 5090 from

#

Its missing rops but oh well

hushed vale
#

You got it for free bro

#

i'd love to keep my 1300 in exchange for losing some rops

fluid charm
#

Thats the way I feel about it. The downside is at any point he can ask for the hardware back. And I can't obviously alter it. So no oc'ing, etc, even custom fan curves. So, no msi afterburner, even though I love that thing

Task manager, nvidia overlay, and hwinfo64 showing high gpu usage

fluid charm
#

well, for starters, turn of nvidia overlay, that kills the gpu and is known to have issues.

haughty aspen
fluid charm
#

Dont go off windows manager, download hwinfo64, and look at all the cores individually

silent wing
#

The wrong process is attributed the GPU usage because it has to pass most stuff through DWM.

haughty aspen
#

I mean I can tell desktop windows manager is using it because I tried a test recording as well in obs and my obs is dying

#

Worked fine before but now I get GPS, Time to Render, Frames missed due to rendering lag, Skipped frames due to encoding lag

haughty aspen
haughty aspen
silent wing
#

Not the crashing, the high load on DWM

haughty aspen
#

Only in game and only certain games

silent wing
#

That fits perfectly with my experience

#

It's completely normal

#

Not correct, just normal

haughty aspen
#

No it's not because when I tried test recording for streaming with obs my obs suddenly starting lagging badly

#

which is why I saw that in task manage it's taking up all the resources

silent wing
#

And how much resources were on the game?

#

0.2% looking at the screenshot

#

Do you think 0.2% GPU usage sounds right for 440 FPS?

#

It's misattributing the game resources to DWM

haughty aspen
#

Yeah I normally get 40-60% utilization but it's still not right showing 60-70%

silent wing
#

Specifically the GPU load.

#

Let's add the GPU engine field.

#

That shows us which part of the GPU is doing work because you also had fairly high load on the Nvidia Container

#

If that is Video Encode, it's normal. If it's 3D, it's not

#

So right click on one of these and add the the GPU Engine field

#

~30% load for Shadplay on the Video Encode components would be pretty normal.

haughty aspen
#

shadowplay is video encode

#

I might of found a "possible fix" but from my understanding it shouldn't work this way

#

From all that's I've seen it says to turn HAGS off which it has been off

#

For performance and other reasons

#

But now that I turned it back on and restarted my pc things seem to be "better"?

#

Also seems that now it shows my ow gpu usage albeit hwinfo still shows 90% but not 99% usage which seems a bit more reasonable and no issues with encoding, rendering, or desktop windows manager '

fluid charm
#

Don't forget, resolution, graphics, frame caps, gsync, slee of settings that can limit your gpu from hitting 100%

#

I forget what gpu and cpu you said. Its possible the game could be giving you a cpu bottleneck as well

haughty aspen
#

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
CPU Cooler: DeepCool Liquid Cooler LS720 360mm
Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 64 GB (4x16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16
Storage: 1 x Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB M.2
1 x Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB M.2
GPU: Asus Strix Gaming OC GeForce RTX 3080 10 GB
Case: Thermaltake View 71 TG RGB
PSU: SeaSonic Focus Plus 650 W 80+ Gold Fully Modular

#

those are my specs sorry just copy and pasted the whole thing bc on mobile rn

fluid charm
#

3080 shouldn't bottleneck the 5800x anyway, even at 1080p

#

But it would put more strain on it

haughty aspen
#

Well most games are at 2k res

#

my monitors only are at 1080, and 2 at 2k

fluid charm
#

3 monitors alone add a nice chunk of stress on it, let alone 2k monitors.

#

Also been issues with 20 series and 30 series using more then 2 monitors

#

Also a ton of issues with nvidia with multiple monitors period, where the gpu can't downclock properly

haughty aspen
#

Even on the most stable recent nvidia drivers 566.36, and trying this as well

- Press Win + R, type regedit, to open the Registry Editor.
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
- Right-click on the right panel, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it TdrDelay.
- Double-click TdrDelay, set the base to Hexadecimal, and enter 3c (which is 60 in decimal) as the value data.
- Create another DWORD value named TdrDdiDelay and repeat the previous step.
- Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer.

Game still crashes

fluid charm
#

Well, ain't the drivers then, rip

#

Unless you didn't ddu properly

haughty aspen
#

I ddu'd and installed the lastest drivers and still the same issue so not sure anymore

humble cipher
#

You got it after a game update

#

Ergo it’s a software issue between game and gpu driver

#

Seems to be a common issue starting January with this game and Nvidia users. Doesn’t say much though as 90% of users are Nvidia
