Hello,

I recently got my hands on a 5070ti and I was doing research on which CPU to pair it with.

Primarily, I'd like to CPU that is powerful for gaming, however I do want to experiment with Blender and editing tools.

I first looked at Intel's 14700 and 14900 but from what I gathered I'd be buying into the last of its generation because the new Arrow lakes use a different socket type.

I then looked at AMD but I'm worried about the low core/thread count on the X3Ds.

I'm open to suggestions because I am honestly at a crossroads here.

If you wanted an upgrade path but wanted to spend a little less for AMD, the 7900x(3D) with 12 cores or the 7950x(3D) with 16 cores I would recommend

#

Both being AM5, you would have an upgrade path until what AMD promises is 2027

Yeah the fact the AM5 is still in service is very appealing especially since I'm rocking an AM4 motherboard with my trusty 3700x

Yeah, AM5 will probably support up to ryzen’s 11000/12000 series chips, depending on when they release AM6

#

And if they release yearly generations

#

Even though it is newer, I wouldn’t recommend intels ultra chips because they’re just worse than their previous chips

Yeah and they're way expensive

Speaking of, what’s your budget for the PC? You already have the GPU, do you have anything else either?

If you’re doing 1440p gaming, you don’t need an x3d cpu

yeah you shouldn't need an x3d unless you play really cpu-limited games

Well I'm an RTS man and I play lots of shooters like Helldivers. My CPU is always at almost full usage when I play my games

hmmm

zen 4/5 is a lot faster than zen 2

Im between the 7950x and the 7800x3d

For the performance loss with the 7950x, are the cores actually worth it?
