PC specs:

  • msi b550m pro vdh wifi
  • ryzen 5 5600g
  • 32gb ddr4 3600mhz (4x8gb but they're running at like 3200mhz)
  • msi rx 6800 gaming z trio
  • 750w power supply be quiet system power 10 80+ bronze

I have not used my computer for around a week, today when I turned it on I got to windows and everything seemed to work fine, but after 1 or 2 minutes all my screens went black and the gpu fans went 100% speed.

I turned it off from the power button and turned it back on but I didn't get any display output at all, despite the gpu rgb lights turning on and fans going 100%.

My motherboard has 4 debugging led lights and the VGA light stays on.

I tried a bios reset but nothing changed.

Since my cpu has integrated graphics I tried booting from that and my computer works fine but the rx 6800 isn't detected.

Could this mean the gpu just died in front of me? Clearly everything else works since I can use my computer through the igpu.

For some context: until december/january I didn't have a dedicated gpu at all, I had been using my computer just with the integrated graphics.
I bought a used rx 6800 from ebay and it's been working absolutely fine for the last 3 months since I had it.
After buying the gpu I changed the power supply too (upgraded from 500w to 750w) and I still have the old one so I could try using that but I doubt it'd make a difference.

Any help will be appreciated, I can send pictures or videos too if that's necessary.

update: after a week of having it sitting on the desk it started working again 😂

I have no idea what was wrong but it definitely was a sign that something is failing
