Are the cables firmly connected? For those headsets there should be two clicks when connecting the aux cord, one click to hear, two clicks to hear and use the mic, make sure of that first

Open "PulseAudio Volume Control", go to the "Configuration" tab, and make sure the profile is set to "Analog Stereo Duplex"

Run arecord test.wav in the terminal and talk, it'll output a test.wav file, see if there's any audio
