So long story short, i tried to migrate windows from one ssd to another and the first time it booted fine on the new drive but then i restarted my pc and got error code 0xc000000e. ive tried installing a windows install media on a usb and repairing it with a guide telling me to use “bootrec/rebuildbcd” but when i do that it says “the system cannot find the path specified” so the last thing i tried was startup repair but that did nothing either and i dont want to reinstall windows so not sure what to do now.

how do you go about migrating windows to the other ssd?

Bootrec /fixmbr

Bootrec /fixboot

Bootrec /rebuildbcd

#

try these in this order in cmd prompt using installation media

#

if that doesn't work it seems like you'll just need a clean windows install

#

before you do all that though, does the drive still show up in bios?

yeah, i found a thread on microsoft of other people having this exact issue and if those commands don't work it seems like the only real solution is a reinstall. if you still have the old drive with the data on it you can use diskgenius to get anything off of it you want to save

#

ohhhhh wait, did you take the original drive out? windows is a bitch with that stuff.

brisk yacht
#

well uh

#

so the thing is

#

when i cloned my old ssd to my new one, i completely cleared the old ssd

kind aurora
#

take the original drive out before you do anything. windows has a nack for splitting installs among drives

#

how did you clear it? did you zero it?

#

if not you can still recover the data

yeah take that drive out, reinstall windows on the new drive, put the old drive back in, and use diskgenius to get your data back

#

clearing with diskpart wont zero the drive which is the only way to actually delete the data

no worries mate. deleting data doesn't actual delete the data. it just frees up the space to be written with new data. saves some life on the drive since ssds only have so many writes before they die. so all that data will still be on the drive, just waiting to be over written.

#

ah i see

kind aurora
#

diskgenius, the paid version, (which i just realized i am assuming you have) has a data recovery feature

brisk yacht
#

am i fucked?

kind aurora
#

let me check rq

#

website says data recovery is included in free version

#

there are other tools you could use otherwise.

#

id recommend taking the old drive out, installing a fresh copy of windows on the new drive, and using data recovery to get whatever you need off the old drive.

#

but im also a stranger on the internet, soooooooooooo

#

dont forget to set a few dumpsters on fire as well

brisk yacht
#

haha all good ill take any advice at this point

kind aurora
#

you don't have to physically take the old drive out, just disconnect the cables

brisk yacht
#

its an m.2 tho

kind aurora
#

than you have to take the old drive out XD

brisk yacht
#

lol sounds good

#

ill take out the old drive rn and see if that does anything, if not looks like ill reinstall windows

kind aurora
#

sounds good keep me updated please

brisk yacht
#

sure thanks for the help

kind aurora
#

and youll never have to

#

in a batman voice

brisk yacht
#

so basically

#

when i took the old ssd out and tried the commands

#

that happened

#

soo i guess its time to reinstall windows
