Hey my current setup is the following, which I built in 2018: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nNM4pK

I'm looking to upgrade, but I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade the current AM4 to eg:

  • AMD Ryzen 5700x3D
  • ASUS TUF RTX 4070ti
  • Trident Z Neo RGB 2x16GB 3600 CAS16

Or AM5 which would mean I would have to upgrade my Motherboard, choose a AM5 CPU and move up to DRR5 as well. This would cost quite a bit more, but is this worth it? What would you recommend I do?

I've been out of the PC building scene for a while, so I'm not fully on top of the current market situation and technology scene in terms of future proof(ness) and upcoming developments etc.?

Yeah, really depends on what you play and at what resolution, but ultimately how much you want to spend

@wicked scaffold @magic swallow Well, my main focus is bang for buck, best performance/longevity per dollar. I don't have a hard cap or minimum but somewhere between 1000-1500 euros preferably.
Probably going for a 4070 Super which I researched is pretty much the most recommend price per dollar on Nvidia's side which is already at around 700-800euros.

#

Currently on 1080p, but with a 4070 super will highly likely bump up to 1440p

Which country @marble swallow ?

Generally speaking, it might actually be worth grabbing AM5 if you have that kinda budget.

7800X3D
B series MBU
Any 32gb kit 6000 mhz CL 30
4070ti super (782 Euro is about average price)

#

Depending on where you are from @marble swallow it should be possible sub 1500 euro

#

This should give you strong performance and will offer that for years to come.

#

again relating to where you are globally, you might be able to grab the 9800X3D only if it fits in the budget with whats excess.

#

But I think the 7800x3d should be adequate, but the newer chip would just be a nice to have if anything.

Yeah you can set the country in pcpp in the top right. That enables you to estimate prices in that region better

#

Also what do you want to do with your PC? What games to you want to play? @marble swallow

Don't play a whole lot of games compared to a few years a go, but it will be a workstation and gaming pc.

Work = Software Development | Think of Android Studio (IOS and Android Development) + other IDE's for Web and ServerAPI development, Docker.
Games I play = RDR2, Marvel Rivals, Marvel Spiderman, AC Unity, CIV6
Games I want to play (well) = Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last Of Us, Uncharted a Tiefs End, Marvel Spiderman 2

Let me know what you think of this list

if you are already on am4, go for 5700x3d, you'll only see minimal performance improvements for massive extra cost, especially if you are not playing 1080p

#

I'm rocking 5800x3d with 4090

#

also had a system with i9 13900 with 4090 and I preferred working on the amd one because they performed exactly the same

Productivity+ gaming

#

And I need to ignore storage and the case

#

Someone please tell me this PSU isn't a bomb

#

14600kf I think outperforms the Ryzen 7 am4 and am5 in productivity workloads

#

Yea that 7700x is lacking

#

4070 ti super also for any Nvidia requiring work

#

But could go for an 7900xt/xtx from amd

The 4070 Ti S would be better, but it also would break the budget by about 200€ and I think a better CPU with nice RAM is more worth it

7200 cl34

#

bad idea

#

almost pointless for a build like this in my eyes

#

hes better off getting more ram than 7200mhz ram

#

i doubt that motherboard could handle 7200 cl34

#

Alright, then swap the 7200 32GB kit with a 6000 64GB kit. What are your thoughts on the CPU GPU combo?

Seems good
