#Pc randomly crashes playing demanding games (not blue screen)

My pc always crashes while playing games like marvel rivals and occasionally Fortnite, but has no problem handling valorant. Sometimes while it crashes, fans (not sure where) go max speed for some reason. I read on Reddit that this daisy chained gpu cable was causing the problem and that you should get another gpu cable. The only problem is, connecting the wrong cables to the psu is really dangerous and I don’t want to break my pc. What should I do?
I have a 7600xt and 7600x combo

#

Could someone tell me how I could get another cable?

gentle plover
#

i can tell you right now that cable is not the problem

#

a 7600xt would not draw enough power for that to be an issue

green glacier
#

I don’t think it’s about the power draw

#

Not sure how reputable this dude is but they were warning about this type of cable

#

A lot of people said that switching to two cables and also going single rail mode helped them resolve this issue

gentle plover
#

that may be, but it is entirely about power draw. the 7600xt has a 190w TDP

#

they probably had a higher power card

#

the reference 7900xtx has 2 pcie power cables

green glacier
#

The picture?

gentle plover
#

what?

green glacier
#

The picture I sent is my 7600xt

gentle plover
#

yes

#

i am saying that people who swapped to 2 discrete cables probably had higher power draw cards. the 7900xtx has 2 pcie power connectors just like your 7600xt

green glacier
#

Someone said it could be this? What do you think

gentle plover
#

what psu do you have?

green glacier
#

Power spec 650w

gentle plover
#

check that the cables are fully seated in the gpu

green glacier
#

Yep I just switched them around

#

And repligged

#

Replugged

gentle plover
#

the 2 clips look different. the right one may not be all the way in?

green glacier
#

I think their in

#

They’re

gentle plover
#

looks like it

#

try gaming to see if it happens again

green glacier
#

I’m gonna play some marvel rivals tmrw to see if repluggimg affected anything

gentle plover
#

sounds good

green glacier
#

Bc I could replicate the effect most consistently in ranked

#

Also my first pc so it could have been a mistake elsewhere

gentle plover
#

is it a modular or nonmodular psu?

green glacier
#

Semi modular

#

Also is consistently holding the power button on the case to close the the pc a possible cause

gentle plover
#

you hard shut down your pc?

#

is that because you have to or is that just something that you do

green glacier
#

It’s a habit from having a laptop

#

Ik it’s bad for the pc but to what extent

gentle plover
#

i mean its not ideal but also 99% of power buttons intiate the normal shutdown with a single press

green glacier
#

Also I have to when my pc freeze crashes

green glacier
gentle plover
#

i know

green glacier
#

Oh alr

gentle plover
#

im saying youd likely be able to press it once like youre turning it on

#

and it will shut down gracefully

green glacier
#

Yeah

green glacier
#

If I did choose to get two separate pcie cables how would I get the right ones for my power supply

gentle plover
#

youd have to search "powerspec pcie cable"

#

though i doubt there would be available connectors on the psu

green glacier
#

So i would just have to replace my power supply?

gentle plover
#

Probably

#

But again, that’s very unlikely to be the issue

green glacier
#

Tried marvel rivals again, and it crashed yet again

#

I also tried replugging the display port

#

Didn’t help

#

Is there somewhere I can check to see what’s causing the crash

gentle plover
#

Maybe event viewer

green glacier
#

just disabled expo and it seems to be running ok

#

havent tried ranked cs i got timed out but that might have been the reason behind the crashes

gentle plover
green glacier
#

Nvm it crashed again on Fortnite

green glacier
#

This crash it still was on and had sound but the screen was frozen then the screen cut out, the audio cut out, and the pc eventually just shut off

gentle plover
green glacier
gentle plover
#

Is that 16 total or 16x2

green glacier
#

Lower than 6000 tho

#

One stick

#

I put it in the most optimal slot

green glacier
gentle plover
#

I don’t really know how event viewer works lmao

green glacier
#

Do I just rebuild my pc

#

I might have done something wrong

#

Should I bring it to microcenter and ask them to fix it

#

do you know any diagnostics software i just try running to find the issue?

turbid lynx
#

the ram not being installed right will not help

#

very open looking

#

and is that a second sick of ram in wrong slot?

green glacier
#

no i only have one stick

turbid lynx
#

ok just was very dark just looked like might be stick

green glacier
#

Is it uninstalled wrong?

#

Installed

#

Is it installed wrong*

turbid lynx
#

the lock is open its not in fully

green glacier
#

wait seriously

turbid lynx
#

see ones to left of it that the locked state

green glacier
#

That can cause crashes right?

turbid lynx
#

depending on how bad contact is bumping desk will make system lock up had that on one pc once

green glacier
#

Lowk I don’t think that was causing the crashes

turbid lynx
#

hay cant be bad idea to fix that

green glacier
#

The stick was all the way in only the plastic was in the wrong place

green glacier
#

I’m so sad bro 😭

#

Just wanna chill and play games over break

gentle plover
green glacier
#

o

gentle plover
turbid lynx
#

a2 and b2 are = unlses doing some going for lasts hz things

green glacier
#

im pretty sure i plugged stuff wrong onto the motherboard lol maybe that contributes to the crashes?

gentle plover
#

No way of knowing

#

A bad cpu mount could cause ram instability on lga style sockets

green glacier
#

I’m pretty sure I mounted it correctly but I’ll check

#

@green glacier Go into Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System. Look at the timestamp and scroll down to approximately where it crashed the last time.

#

Find the red critical event Kernel-Power with the ID 41. Select it, then select the Details tab. Screenshot.
