Howdy all!
I'm currently in the market for a new monitor to help make the games I play, mainly Star Citizen and Helldivers 2, look as good as can be after an upcoming PC rebuild and my original aim was to finally upgrade my nine-year-old 2K Dell to something 4K. However, when I asked this question on the LTT Forums, the only two responses I got were telling me I should go OLED 2K instead. I, however, am extremely hesitant to go anywhere near OLED/QD-OLED because I like my hardware to last as long as possible and quite literally everyone I know personally who got on the OLED train is already suffering various levels of burn-in, despite claiming to take precautions and use the screen refresh features to prevent/fix the issue.
Since the only two forum users to respond to my post have said absolutely nothing about monitors or the tech themselves and just keep saying go OLED with no real information beyond that or why it's better, I figured I'd try and ask here for help.
This what I posted on my forum post regarding information about what I'm looking for:
- Overall budget is preferably $1k or less.
- I tend to play strategy, RPG, FPS and TPS games the most, with casual Rainbow Six | Siege matches being the most "competitive" I touch. Though Star Citizen and Helldivers 2 are my main games overall, so I want something to make space combat and cargo hauling pop and Space Vietnam all that more cinematic.
- Image quality, monitor size, and color accuracy are vastly more important to me than super high refresh rates. 120-144hz is a-okay with me, though anything more is still nice. I mainly want something pretty large that'll really "immerse" me into my games.
- Curved monitors are cool but tend to cost a lot I've heard, so I'm not actively looking for one unless it fits the budget.
That's all that comes to my mind now. I'd greatly appreciate any recommendations you all can provide and I'll happily provide more information if there's anything I didn't think of or missed!
