Hi all. I have 3 different desktop PCs that stopped working after I moved to a new apartment. 2 of them are fairly beefy machines (around 850 watt power supply) and the third is a little lighter. The first 2 have dedicated graphics cards (3080 and 4080) and the third doesn't. The first 2 are relatively new computers built within the past 2 years with new parts. The third is used I got from a friend's old company and I'm not entirely sure what's in it, though it's not very old. Also at no point did I blow a fuse and I should be well under the wattage for that fuse.

It is worth mentioning that I have a 4th PC similar to the weaker third one that is working in the new apartment.

I had assumed it wasn't the computers that were broken since I found it hard to believe all 3 PCs broke. I broke them in my car myself (no movers), was fairly careful with them, and the whole trip is only a few blocks away

I tried to use 2 of the computers at my parents house where they had worked previously but now they seem to be broken.

So now I'm unsure what to do. I've done a little research and it's possible my new apartment has "dirty" power that's causing the issue. Though it's also possible that something got loose during the move. I would try to reassemble parts and test in my apartment but I'm nervous that maybe turning it on in that apartment is what broke them? Is that possible? I saw that newer power supplies should be able to handle dirty power but I'm just wondering if there's anything else I should test?

the "dirty" power is a very likely reason, if it's possible i do recommend buying a new power supply that can handle it and if possible try using a surge protector. Really sorry this happened, I hope this can get fixed soon!

did you hit any speedbumps or anything during the trip? because if so, i would do a triple check on all three PCs to make absolute sure nothing came loose

Thanks for the response!
Do you think it's likely that the old power supplies broke? If not then have a UPS would be cheaper? I have surge protectors so that's not an issue

No speed bumps that I can remember but I'll triple check the PCs anyway

Do you think it's safe to plug it into my apartment? Or could it cause damage?

Also since this may be useful, here's the parts list for the 2 PCs I built

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JW3xN6 (I was mistaken before, it's a 4070 super not 4080)

It should be safe to plug into your apartment (through a surge protector would be the best bet- seeing as you already have a few) but I would try a new power supply and see if that changes anything. does your mobo have any power indicators or debug leds?

What board do you have in the PC with the light?

#

if it's blinking, there's a problem with the PSU, a solid orange light means there's a problem with the motherboard, while a blinking orange light means there's something wrong with the power supply

Sorry for the delay! I had to get back to my apartment from the weekend
I just tried the PC with the blinking light in a surge protector. I was going to try reseating the CPU. I did a test turn on before I did and it worked! I'm not sure what was different
I guess maybe because it was a different outlet? I tried in 3 others so I thought that wasn't it but maybe there was an issue with all 3? Though I used an outlet I used before by my parents so I'm not really sure...

Something just came up but I'm going to try the other PCs through this surge protector
I'll keep you posted!

I wrote that too early! It just turned on it just took ~5 min
Sorry for all the questions! I guess it's just the outlets? In any case the computers seem to be fine (I'm not sure what happened by my parents)
I may have to get an electrician if it's the outlets
