#How to disable 2.4 GHz entirely

Title is self explanatory, but I have an external WiFi card (https://www.netgear.com/support/product/a8000/) because my setup is in a cinder block building and not near a WiFi access point. I have found that on 5 GHz, the connection, despite showing as 1 bar in windows, is perfectly fine (around 100 Mbps up and down). The issue is that Windows is a prick and randomly decides to change to 2.4 GHz, which has a much higher signal strength. The issue is that 2.4 GHz is practically unusable, with 5 Mbps down and packet loss often in excess of 50%. The card I am using has a very sparse configuration panel through Windows, and the "prefer 5 GHz" is more of a suggestion than any rule that is actually being followed. I am willing to go nuclear up to the point of reinstalling Windows (not doing that), so if anyone has any registry edits or something that would be appreciated.

to the 2.4ghz band

where can I do that?

#

the bands aren't seperate networks (FWIW I'm dealing with university Eduroam and don't have any access to the router side)

it feels like there should be more options somewhere but I guess netgear decided to pull an apple and make none of the useful ones visible

what i was saying is that how this was going is that windows would connect to 5ghz and then after a minute or two decide to go to 2.4. this was on 802.11ax though so if that one has 2.4 and 5ghz than that would explain the switching

#

nevermind

so yea, that's what im dealing with... it just has a mind of its own

if I disconnect and reconnect, it goes back to this, but only for a bit
