Hey everyone. Building my 2nd PC here. This is going to be a low budget build. I'd like it to run modem games at 1080p reliably. I'm hoping to use black Friday/cyber Monday to make this happen around $400-500.
My current list includes:
Ryzen 5500 - $85,
MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI - $90,
Silicon Power 2x8GB 3200 CL22 - $20,
XFX Radeon RX 580 8 GB - $120,
Montech AIR 903 MAX Case - $65
Thermaltake Toughpower GX2 600 W 80+ Gold Power Supply - $50
Total - $~430
I also already have an extra Intel 660p 1TB SSD and AMD wraith prism cooler that I plan to use in it.
Is this a capable rig for 1080p?Open to suggestions, but not used parts.
#Help me stay under budget please

unbalanced parts choice
Care to elaborate?
RX 580 with a 5500 is an unfair choice
also you overspent on the RX 580
and the ram is CL22 which is bad
i'm remaking a list
Here you go: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/37mdXR
Part List - Intel Core i3-12100F, Arc A580, SAMA ARGB-Q5 MicroATX Mini Tower
Excellent parts list for 460
i3-12100f is far more powerful than the Ryzen 5 5500 at gaming
The RAM is faster (lower latency)
Much better and modern GPU
Arc A580 beats rx 580 in every category
you should go with this
Well, I am giving this to my nephew, so I don't want to put an Intel GPU in it, but I like the RAM you suggest. I think I'm going to go with the original case just because it gives a lot more room to upgrade later and I have built in one before and am comfortable with it for only $10 more. And the power supply you picked is actually the other one I was choosing from when making the list originally, but I went with the other one because the higher efficiency makes up for the extra 50w and the whole build still comes in barely over half the wattage. The Intel bottom tier CPU might leave a bad taste in my mouth, but I think you're probably right that it's a better fit...
??
dude what are you saying
the i3-12100f is not a bottom tier CPU
it's an awesome processor capable of delivering great performance (better than r5 5500)
and I dont see the problem with an intel gpu
OMG do you work for user benchmark??
I don't
I'm just stating the facts
if it makes you happy
The drivers are what's wrong with Arc. I know they've come a long way but they're not nearly as reliable as AMD or Nvidia yet. And please tell me, what's below the 12100F? And no, it is not faster than the 5500. The i3 has 4 cores rated for 3.3Ghz and the R5 has 6 cores rated for 3.6Ghz.
Whilst the i3 has less cores you forgot a key factor
core architecture
frequency/core count don't matter as much as core architecture
Ryzen 5 5500 uses the zen 3 architecture but only has 16mb of L3 cache
i3-12100f uses the alder lake architecture which is much newer
Unironically I would say Intel Arc drivers are better than AMD Software
I and multiple people I've talked to online have trouble opening amd software
Below 12100f is: 11900k, 11700k, etc etc
No, those are older. But they're much higher tier parts and will be faster and more expensive. Are you being obtuse or deceptive?
Why would they be higher tier ?
In what way is the silicon in the 11900K better than the 12100f
considering the 12100f has a newer core architecture
Dude are you genuinely trying to tell me you would consider the 12100F an UPGRADE from the 11900k???
have you ever seen some benchmarks?
No, but from what I understand the difference is about 6%. Right? Also, if I put in the Intel chip, I can't use the extra cooler I have, so that'll use up any savings from switching the CPU.
if we go for a simple used chip, we can get miles better parts.
yuh
wait
that parts list is like 100 dollar more expensive
6650 will destroy an a580
and he already has a 1TB ssd
there
now it's cheaper AND better
considering he alr has a cooler/ssd
Why are you trying to argue? People are helping you here.
And anything better CAN be considered as an upgrade, even if it’s only 6%
