#pc boot from usb
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Try to do what that one person on my post recommended, leaving the cmos out for 10 minutes and then holding the power button before plugging it back in
I think it did
@steel sequoia please could you help. i’m getting a similar issue to uniman
Maybe try a different USB stick? @pearl zinc
Sorry I'm a bit busy if you're still having a problem in like 30 mins ping me
@pearl zinc Reinstall or new PC?
Also possible, you may not have the correct storage driver installed in the base windows install. After failing to boot windows 3 times you should get a recovery options screen. I recommend safe mode with networking, browse to manufacturer webpage and look for storage or chipset drivers. If you have main board or laptop model I can try and help find the right download
Did you have BSODs before reinstalling?
Driver_PNP_Watchdog usually means that something connected is faulty. PNP = Plug N Play, so often USB stuff.
If it's that same crash every time
Storage drivers are just baked into Windows unless you are running RAID.
not always. also depends on when you made the installer or if you're using the original ms-provided usb stick. If you're running win10 for example there's plenty of hardware that didn't exist when win10 released. Or even since win10-22h2 (for example) was published.
You don't have specific drivers for each drive.
You have drivers for the controller, which is built into Windows.
correct. but my statement stands
i dont have an option to get into safe mode
i cant get it to boot into recovery either pal
That is not encouraging! Sorry to hear it. do you know your mainboard model number?
it's a Acer Predator Orion 3000 pc
nope
i have a usb here with a clean W11 on it, which im getting the error from
my next step is to try a different ssd drive, and see if i can load windows onto that by doing the same method. if that doesnt work i dont know what will
you are probably more smart than me, so you may know something that works
https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/drivers-and-manuals is where I'm at but apparently those search terms are not exact enough. try looking for something like a Service Tag or maybe Acer ID?
or serial number/SNID
leads to https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/product-support/PO3-600/DG.E14EK.003/downloads?sn=DGE14EK0038400008E1800 there are a few options that might have an effect but they're pretty old actually. I'm not seeing any drivers here newer than 2020 so Bjoolz might be the better lead to follow
@pearl zinc Is it that same BSOD error each time? Driver_PNP_Watchdog?
Yes pal
it gives me the option to boot into windows boot manager or the new usb, i choose the usb and then it takes around 13 mins for it to do a spinny wheel and give me the bsod
that's way too long to boot the installer. Have you tried a different usb stick/ different usb port on computer?
Port, yes
stick, no
@pearl zinc Oh, so this is before the install?
yes pal. NO windows or anything
turn on pc, press the usb to load into
loads for.. 13 min, takes ages
bsod
after bsod, it attempts to boot to win boot mgr
which isnt what i want!
Yeah, try a different stick
it's my mates pc, i'll have to go round in a few days
Nothing uncommon connected to USB?
The Media Creation Tool used to create it or Rufus/Ventoy?
I've seen a complete trash mouse from Dell cause everything on the usb controller to randomly disconnect before. may be worth swapping kb+mouse if you have alternates
yeah MCT
on my pc. did it last night
win 11
this
Yeah, you good
The Windows installer for some reason just works more reliably with the MCT than image mounting tools, no idea why.
what are my best steps then atm
I would suggest creating a new installer with MCT on a different usb disk. Did you mention you might be able to do that on a buddy's PC?
no so the pc that’s broken is my mates. i created the win 11 mct on my pc
Just a different USB stick.
Acer likes to use [ALT]+[F10] for recovery boot options, try holding the ALT key and continually hitting F10 after truning the PC on and see if you get the recovery menu.
ok. will try both cheers
Nice pfp
just tried a different usb. same bsod error,. about to change the ssds in it
when i try and select my boot options, the new ssd is not there at all, it just says my usb stick. do i need do anything @fallow light ?
Assuming it's installed correctly, you might try looking at BIOS setup first and make sure it's detected. Maybe that particular m.2 slot/sata connector is turned off? If sata connected, make sure you have power attached too
it doesnt seem to be detected in the boot options in the list
theres cd, usb, removeable device, but nothing about sata/ssd/etc
ive not dealt with ssds much but theres two cables going into it one bigger than the toher
it’s detecting it here. but should it bbe in port 0
Usually doesn't matter, but maybe? I typically don't use intel RST and if you don't have optane it might make sense to change that onboard sata mode to AHCI
what tab would that be under?
Advanced > Onboard SATA mode
you posted the screen at 6:04
are you getting bluescreen when booted from usb and installing windows still?
🙂
ok why was it one setting to change
ok lemme go through this and see where we get to cheers mate
won’t let me install on this top one.
that’s the new ssd i think
"has a mbr partiation table"
disk 0 should be the ssd from one of your earlier screenshots. For a fresh install just delete both things that say disk 0, then select the unpartitioned space on disk 0. It will split it up as needed
i got everything sorted @fallow light wanted to say thanks a lot for the help pal much appreciated
I love to hear it! Have a good holiday season dude
only thing is, mates got it back and it wants a bit locker key. is there a standard key / password?
No. The bitlocker key is a long ass key of random letters and numbers.
If it's not the OS drive, the bitlocker key should be saved with your Microsoft account so once you log in, it should grab it.
