#Red VGA light

It originated around 2-3 weeks ago when i was trying to play FiveM i’d go in it’d run fine and then it’d crash saying stuff about a direct X error it did this a couple of times and i tried fixing it to which it never got fixed it kept crashing and eventually my pc froze i turned it off and turned it back on and tried again and it froze eventually it got to a point where when id try to turn it back on it wouldn’t display anything but the pc would be on. Initially i thought it could be the ram so i decided to order new ram and put it in, this didnt fix the problem. I then decided to buy a new case and motherboard since it was on the bucket list already due to me having an older motherboard and a cpu that i couldn’t put in it. After swapping everything over to the new case with the new parts things looked smooth the cpu light on the motherboard popped up so i went to the MSI website and downloaded the latest bios after that I turned my pc on and the cpu light would turn on and then turn off so i know it’s recognizing my new cpu. After the cpu light turned off i noticed my vga light turned on since then i haven’t been able to fix it, i’ve done just about everything. I’ve swapped out the graphics card for my older one and the light still popped up so i don’t think it’s my graphics card, I took out one ram stick and tried booting it up and that didn’t work either, i’ve done the cmos jumpstart (i think that’s what it’s called), i moved my graphics card from the 2nd slot to the 1st one on the motherboard. Not really sure of what else to do any ideas or help is appreciated.
Since you have a 5th gen ryzen, we can't really use the iGPU as it has none. Have you tried resetting CMOS by removing the battery when the PC is unplugged? That might be the last option before RMAing the board. What is your old GPU?
I’m not sure if i’m able to remove the cmos battery from this motherboard all my research says i have to use the cmos jumper
It has to be removable as you need to be able to replace it. And yes that board in fact has one under the GPU slot
but this does make sense
yeah so it's right next to the jumper
yeah
i’ve tried pushing down but it doesn’t come out a lot of videos told me to hold a screw driver in between the 2 jumper prongs
There is alittle clip that you should push away fromt he battery
it's on the bottom side
let me see i’ll remove my gpu so i can get to the cmos battery now
yeah that's the pain
not sure if i’m not pushing down hard enough but looking at other people do it with different motherboards there’s seems to pop out pretty easily
i’ve read with the b550 i gotta use the jumper prong but when i originally tried that it didn’t work 😵💫
you can push much harder
I would use your finger nail
it wouldn’t break anything?
I pushed it down about as hard as i could it still wouldn’t budge
after using the jump start prongs the vga light took a while longer to turn back on
but now when i turn it off it automatically turns back on which is weird
Okay, what’s the old GPU?
the old gpu is a gtx 1650
haven’t used it in about 9 months
i put it back in to see if it was my new gpu that was the issue and the light still came on
To me this sounds like a motherboard or maybe even CPU issue. Have you checked the CPU for any bent pins? Also, what's your PSU? And I think you said that you checked the cables, if your PSU is modular, also check on that side.
the motherboard and cpu are both brand new got the cpu a couple months back but wasn’t able to put it in due to needing a new motherboard which i put in the other day
i’ll check for bent pins when i get the chance but it should be in perfect condition
i mean it’s recognizing the cpu so idk
regarding the psu i’ve unplugged and plugged back in the pcie cables
it’s been such a complicated process i’m really not sure what it could be
Yeah, but there might be bent pins that are handling PCIe
What’s the model on it?
mmm i see
i’d have to check rq
well the issue was also happening with my old cpu which was one second working and the next it wasn’t
but i definitely will check the cpu for bent pins
i have to unplug the entire power supply to see the model but i know it’s either 600 or 650w
too low of wattage?
if that’s the case when i get my paycheck ill buy a new psu
but it just stopped working in my old build after working fine
😵💫
but tbf after moving everything over to the new big case i did put in a better cpu so it’s definitely possible
How old is the PSU? If it's like 5 years old and was a cheap one, then that can happen. Even some quality units can exhibit that kind of issues
mmmm tbh i’m unsure how old it is
after work i’ll definitely look up the exact brand to see how old it is
Alright
