9700x vs 7800x3d?

The price difference is about £90 where I'm based (£310 vs £400). I know the 7800x3d is the better choice for gaming, but I game at 1440p and the difference in fps between the 2 is pretty close or minimal, or so it seems. Unfortunately it's hard to be confident bc most of the testing and benchmarking done online is done at 1080p.

The 7800x3d price has just gone up and up in the last 6 months or more. Part of me hopes there will be a black friday or cyber monday sale on it, but idk.

For further context, if it helps at all, I was planning on having a 4070 super as my gpu, but I might opt for a 5070 instead after looking at the leaks and speculation (by the time I can afford to get my gpu the 50 series will be revealed or releasing anyway, so its not like I'm delaying the build)

I know this is a bit lengthy but any insight or second opinions would be appreciated :)

It comes down to what your split looks like. The 7800x3D is a great CPU at gaming, and decent at performance. The 9700x is the inverse. At 1440p though, your CPU choice doesn't make a big difference, as that resolution is mostly GPU-bound.

9800x3D is dropping in 3 days. Wait for that and see how the prices turn about, lol.

I think I'll ride the month out and see how things go, considering the 9800x3d launch and black friday. Maybe the 7800x3d will get a nice reduction. Although tbf, the 9700x is already reduced from £340 and has been for about 3 weeks now, so there's a bit of fear of missing out on that tbh. Price could revert any day now for all I know
