Asus ROG STRIX B550-A GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard
A bit unnecessary to spend that much on an AM4 board. An MSI B550-A or Asrock B550 PG Riptide is plenty.
The msi b550-a pro is my go to
I’m thinking of upgrading. my case right now is the Lian li o11 mini, what do you think I should change my cpu and mobo too? I only do light gaming like valorant and mainly use it for school work
Lets start from scratch. You're in the canadian market and looking to upgrade? What's the budget, what are you coming from, and what are you looking to do with your upgrade?
Ok, my budget is around 400-500 and my combo right now is really old so just trying to upgrade
It’s runs games really slow
Okay, what are you running?
Ryzen
I thought I only needed to upgrade my motherboard in case I upgrade my cpu down the line
But my friend told me to upgrade cpu
Which ryzen.
3600 I think
am4 should just need a bios update. and the 3600 is in the middle, so you can upgrade for 5000 series or downgrade to 1000 series without needing flashback
You should make a PCPP list of your current parts. That will help visualize what you all have and how your pairing can be optimized/upgraded.

Theirs also like a thing on the cpu with a screen but idk what it is
I’m new to pcs 😅
Do you still have the motherboard?
Yes but I want to upgrade it so I can use ddr5 memory cuz my dad uses my pc to transfer a lot of like files
But idk if I can
Bassicly I jsut wanna upgrade tjings so thsg it will last a long time but not like blow my budget
If that makes sense
So, we're moving over the old case, power supply, GPU, and SSD?
Yes
Cuz I think they are good
Unless they are not
For sure the case and power supply
Does your case have fans?
Yes

Everything else looks okay. NV2 is a bad drive to buy, but since you both have it and are budget-constricted to 500 CAD, you're kinda limited to AM4. If you can stretch your budget to ~600, then it's possible to go for AM5 and keep everything else.

AM5 upgrade looks like this.

admittedly though, it would be better to go to AM5.
