Posted this on the forum but I figured I’d ask here too. Any recommendations?

  1. Budget & Location
In the us and a fair distance to a micro center but not worried about saving tons. Budget set at $4K USD tops and don’t mind coming close or going over after taxes and shipping. Just don’t want to exceed that before tax and shipping.
    2. Aim
Gaming, video editing, casual graphic design mostly in an art form but not much in 3D. Lots of work from home takes as well but anything can handle web browsing and emails.
    3. Monitors
I currently have two 1080p monitors and want to go to 2 1440p monitors in the future. I just don’t have space for the extra screen real estate yet and I’m moving next year.
    4. Peripherals
No peripherals needed but will upgrade to a 1440p monitor once I move and have more space. No windows install needed cause I can just pick up a cheap key and just hope I don’t get scammed.
    5. Why are you upgrading?
I am upgrading because I am still on a 7700 and a 1060 and I am no longer extremely broke and have a use for more power.

I can't stand rgb and I am also pretty boring so all black or even blackout vibes are preferred. Also really like the corsair 4000D

Are you open to alternative cases?

Like the Phanteks XT Pro Ultra?

Or turn it off if you do connect it.

It's still a better value option compared to the 4000D. If he's dead set on a 4000D, then that's his money, but he'll want to buy 2 extra 120mms fans.

or wait a bit for the 9800x3d

In any case, choosing anything from a Ryzen 7 7800x3D, 7950X, or 7950x3D would be great options for all of your tasks. 9950x is also okay at the price, though you'd be better off getting a 7950x for "value". Do be aware that there's a 9000x3D drop on the 7th of November, so if you can wait, that'll be great as well. Also note that you won't need an AIO cooler for a 7800x3D, it doesn't run that hot. X670/870 boards are niche. Most users won't need the extra PCIE lanes/connectivity. If you run multiple PCIE devices like network/sound cards or have a LOT of NVME storage, then X-series boards may also be an option then.

Though admittedly, a 4090 is a bit overkill for 1440p. You can "downgrade" to a 7900 XTX for pure gaming (but it also holds up in productivity), or 4080 Super, if you're getting into modeling/CAD.
